About BITSAT

BITSAT is the computer-based admission test of BITS Pilani, one of India's most reputed private technical universities, for undergraduate engineering, pharmacy and integrated science programmes across its Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. The test is distinctive among Indian engineering entrances for its speed-oriented format: 130 questions in three hours across physics, chemistry, mathematics (or biology), English proficiency and logical reasoning, with +3/−1 marking. Candidates who finish all 130 questions may unlock 12 additional bonus questions — a risk-reward feature unique to BITSAT, since earlier answers get locked once the bonus set is opened.

Admission is strictly merit-by-score with no category-based relaxation of the academic criteria: applicants need at least 75% aggregate in PCM/PCB and 60% in each subject, and may take the exam only in the year of, or the year after, their Class 12. The institute famously offers direct admission to the first-rank holders of every central and state board examination, a policy designed to attract top scholastic talent regardless of entrance-test performance.

Because the questions are largely NCERT-level but time pressure is intense, JEE aspirants generally find the syllabus familiar and the pacing the real challenge; the English and logical reasoning sections reward candidates who practise the format specifically. BITSAT scores are used only for BITS admissions, and counselling runs through iterative online rounds against programme-wise cutoffs that vary by campus and branch.

Accepted by: BITS Pilani group campuses — Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa and Hyderabad — for B.E. (Hons.), B.Pharm and M.Sc. programmes

BITSAT eligibility

Pass in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) for engineering programmes — or Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) for B.Pharm — with at least 75% aggregate in the three subjects and a minimum of 60% in each of them individually, with adequate proficiency in English. Only candidates who appeared for Class 12 in the current year or passed it in the immediately preceding year are eligible. The marks criteria apply uniformly with no category-based relaxation. First-rank holders of central and state boards are offered direct admission irrespective of BITSAT score, subject to the same minimum marks requirements.
