VITEEEVIT Engineering Entrance Examination
About VITEEE
VITEEE is the annual undergraduate engineering entrance examination of the Vellore Institute of Technology, one of India's largest and most sought-after private engineering universities. The computer-based test runs over several days in multiple slots — candidates book their preferred slot on a first-come, first-served basis — and admits students to B.Tech programmes across the Vellore, Chennai, Amaravati (VIT-AP) and Bhopal campuses. The paper offers two variants: MPCEA (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, Aptitude) for all engineering branches, and BPCEA (Biology in place of Mathematics) for biology-linked programmes such as biotechnology.
The test comprises 125 questions in two and a half hours, with the bulk of the paper devoted to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology at Class 11–12 level, plus short aptitude and English sections. The marking scheme announced for recent cycles awards +4 per correct answer with −1 negative marking — a notable change from the exam's long-standing no-negative-marking format — so candidates should always confirm the current year's scheme in the official brochure. Question difficulty is generally regarded as gentler than JEE Main, with an emphasis on NCERT-level concepts and speed.
Ranks determine everything at VIT: counselling is fully centralized and online, with branch and campus preferences filled against rank-wise cutoffs. Computer science and allied specializations at the Vellore and Chennai campuses close earliest. VIT also charges differential fee categories linked to rank bands, so a stronger VITEEE rank can translate directly into lower tuition.
Accepted by: VIT campuses at Vellore, Chennai, VIT-AP (Amaravati) and VIT Bhopal for B.Tech programmes; branch allotment through VIT's centralized online counselling by rank
Official websiteVITEEE eligibility
Pass in 10+2 or equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) or Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB); relaxed to 50% for SC/ST candidates and applicants from certain north-eastern states and union territories. Candidates choosing the Biology stream (BPCEA paper) are admitted to bio-related B.Tech programmes. An upper age criterion applies (date of birth typically not more than about 22 years before admission — defined by a rolling cutoff each cycle). Indian nationals, NRIs and OCI/PIO card holders may apply.
VITEEE exam pattern
