NEET-UGNational Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate)
About NEET-UG
NEET-UG is the single national gateway for undergraduate medical, dental, AYUSH and veterinary admissions in India. Conducted by the National Testing Agency, it replaced the earlier multiplicity of state and institutional entrance tests, so a candidate's NEET-UG score determines eligibility and rank for admission through both the All India Quota and state quotas.
The paper consists of 180 multiple-choice questions across Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, for a maximum of 720 marks in a three-hour test, with +4 for each correct answer and -1 for each wrong answer. It is currently administered in pen-and-paper (OMR) format across a large number of centres and languages, with a stated intent to move to computer-based testing.
A qualifying NEET-UG result is mandatory for MBBS, BDS and the AYUSH degrees, and its scope has been widening to cover B.Sc Nursing at central institutions and allied and healthcare courses under NCAHP. After results, admissions are handled through MCC (All India Quota, deemed/central universities, AFMC, ESIC) and state counselling for the remaining seats.
Accepted by: MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS, BNYS, BVSc & AH and, increasingly, B.Sc Nursing and allied-health undergraduate courses across government and private colleges in India
