Gujarat’s GCAS mop-up round is open — the last chance at a UG or PG seat this year

All regular and vacant-seat rounds are over, but seats remain. The GCAS portal has been open for a college-level mop-up round since 7 September, and nine universities issued their circulars on 11 September. Each college sets its own last date.

Gujarat’s GCAS mop-up round is open — the last chance at a UG or PG seat this year

If you are in Gujarat without a college seat in mid-September, you have not missed the year. Every prescribed UG and PG round and the vacant-seat round (VSBC) for 2026-27 are finished, but seats are still empty across colleges — so the Education Department has opened a college and university level mop-up round, with the GCAS portal live for it since 7 September.

Who can apply

  • Students who never registered on GCAS — for whatever reason — can register afresh now.
  • Students who registered but were never admitted can log in and edit their application and preferences.

The deadline is not one date — it is your college's date

This is the part that catches people. GCAS has opened the portal, but the last date for admission is declared by each college or university according to its own rules and academic calendar. There is no single statewide cut-off to plan around. On 11 September, mop-up circulars were issued for nine universities — Gujarat Technological University, Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Krantiguru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachchh University, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, Shri Govind Guru University, Sardar Patel University, Saurashtra University, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University. Find the circular for the university you want and read its dates.

How the round works

Register or log in on the GCAS portal, complete your profile, upload documents and set preferences. The college then verifies eligibility and offers admission under the prevailing rules — merit calculation, tie-breakers and reservation all still apply. After original-document verification and fee payment, the college generates the offer on the portal and confirms the admission.

Two pieces of advice for a mop-up round

First, set your preference for the exact college, programme and major subject you genuinely want. In a mop-up round you are chasing specific vacant seats, not a general merit position, and a vague preference list is how students end up admitted to a subject they will drop in November. Programme-wise vacancy details are published on the GCAS portal and on each college's own website and notice board — check them before you choose.

Second, go in person with original documents and the fee ready. This round is decided at the college counter, not by an algorithm, and it is explicitly the final link in this year's admission chain.
