B.F.Sc (Bachelor of Fisheries Science)
About B.F.Sc (Bachelor of Fisheries Science)
The Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc) is a four-year professional degree covering the science and business of aquatic food production — aquaculture, fish biology and genetics, fish health and nutrition, aquatic ecology, fishing technology and gear, fish processing and post-harvest technology, and fisheries economics and extension. It is offered by dedicated fisheries colleges and faculties within agricultural and fisheries universities, with the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai, as the flagship deemed university.
India is one of the largest fish producers in the world, and the sector's rapid growth — especially inland aquaculture and shrimp exports — makes fisheries graduates employable across hatcheries and farms, seafood-export and processing firms, feed and aqua-input companies, fisheries departments, banks (as fisheries development/field officers) and research institutes. Many graduates pursue an M.F.Sc through ICAR AIEEA (PG) to specialize and enter research and academia.
