About B.Sc (Hons) Horticulture

B.Sc (Hons) Horticulture is a four-year professional degree focused on the cultivation, improvement, processing and marketing of horticultural crops — fruits (pomology), vegetables (olericulture), flowers (floriculture), plantation crops, spices, medicinal and aromatic plants, and landscape/ornamental gardening. It shares its foundation with B.Sc Agriculture (soil science, genetics, entomology, plant pathology, extension) but specializes in high-value crops and protected/greenhouse cultivation, which is a fast-growing commercial segment.

The degree suits students drawn to India's expanding horticulture economy — the country is among the world's largest producers of fruits and vegetables — and to nursery, orchard, post-harvest, food-processing and landscaping careers. Graduates work as horticulturists, floriculture/greenhouse managers, plantation officers, post-harvest and cold-chain specialists, and agricultural officers, and many go on to an M.Sc in a horticulture discipline via ICAR AIEEA (PG).

Eligibility

10+2 in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Mathematics/Agriculture accepted at some universities); typically a minimum 50% aggregate (relaxed for reserved categories)

Admission process

ICAR All-India Quota via CUET (ICAR-UG); state-quota seats through state agriculture CETs or state counselling
