About JEECUP (UPJEE Polytechnic)

JEECUP is the gateway to polytechnic diploma seats in Uttar Pradesh — one of the largest diploma admission systems in the country. The Joint Entrance Examination Council (Polytechnic), Uttar Pradesh, an admissions body functioning since the late 1980s, conducts the Uttar Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics — UPJEE(P) — to fill seats in government, aided and private polytechnics affiliated to the state technical education board. Candidates apply under lettered groups (A through K/L), each mapped to a family of diploma programmes: Group A for the engineering diploma, separate groups for agriculture, pharmacy, hotel management and other streams, and dedicated lateral-entry groups through which ITI certificate holders and 10+2 candidates join the second year of the engineering diploma.

The exam itself is deliberately school-level: 100 objective questions in a 150-minute sitting, four marks per correct answer for a 400-mark total, and no negative marking — so attempting every question is the rational strategy. Group A draws its Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry questions from the Class 10 syllabus, which keeps the test accessible to the students the polytechnic system is designed for. Recent editions have run as a computer-based test with bilingual Hindi/English papers. Details such as shift structure, group offerings and counselling rounds are revised year to year in the information bulletin on the official portal, which is the only source worth trusting for the current cycle.

Qualifying JEECUP feeds into centralized online counselling: choice filling across hundreds of polytechnics, seat allotment by rank and category, and document verification. For students weighing routes after Class 10, a JEECUP seat in a good government polytechnic is one of the highest-value low-cost options in UP — the diploma leads to junior-engineer-track employment and to B.Tech lateral entry.

Accepted by: Government, aided and private polytechnic institutions across Uttar Pradesh affiliated to the UP Board of Technical Education (UPBTE/BTEUP), through centralized JEECUP counselling
