NCHM JEENational Council for Hotel Management Joint Entrance Examination
About NCHM JEE
NCHM JEE is the single national gateway to the B.Sc. in Hospitality & Hotel Administration at the NCHMCT-affiliated Institutes of Hotel Management — the closest thing hotel management has to a JEE Main. Conducted by the National Testing Agency as a computer-based test in English and Hindi, it produces one merit list from which seats across the entire IHM network (central, state and private) are allotted through centralized online counselling.
The paper is an aptitude test, not a subject test: per the official information bulletin it carries 120 multiple-choice questions over 120 minutes — English Language (45 questions) and Aptitude for the Service Sector (30) dominate, with Numerical Ability & Analytical Aptitude, Reasoning & Logical Deduction and General Knowledge & Current Affairs at 15 questions each. Marking is +4/−1. Candidates should note the pattern was compressed recently — earlier editions ran 200 questions over 3 hours — so older prep material overstates the paper; always reconcile against the current bulletin.
Because eligibility is just 10+2 with English (any stream, no age limit), the real differentiators are English fluency and the service-aptitude section, which rewards situational judgement about courtesy, teamwork and guest handling. Counselling choices matter as much as rank: the older central IHMs (Pusa, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata among them) see the strongest demand, so research institutes before locking preferences.
Accepted by: All NCHMCT-affiliated institutes — 21 Central IHMs, 33 State Government IHMs, 25 private IHMs plus PSU/PPP-run institutes — for admission to the B.Sc. Hospitality & Hotel Administration, allotted through centralized counselling at nchmcounselling.nic.in
