About TS POLYCET (TG POLYCET)

TS POLYCET (increasingly styled TG POLYCET) is Telangana’s single-window entrance test for polytechnic diplomas, conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET). One rank serves an unusually wide set of programmes: the classic engineering and non-engineering diplomas at SBTET-affiliated polytechnics, and — for candidates who take the additional Biology section — agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, animal husbandry and fisheries diplomas at the participating farm-sector institutions. Eligibility is a pass in SSC (Class 10) or equivalent with the prescribed subject minimums, Mathematics being essential for the SBTET diploma courses; there is no age limit.

The test is a single offline OMR paper pitched at the Class 10 syllabus: 60 Mathematics, 30 Physics and 30 Chemistry questions for everyone (120 questions), with 30 Biology questions added for agriculture-stream aspirants (150 questions), each carrying one mark. The sitting runs two and a half hours and there is no negative marking, so full attempts cost nothing. Because weightage tilts heavily toward Mathematics, POLYCET preparation is mostly disciplined revision of SSC maths. Section composition and schedules are confirmed each cycle in the official notification, which candidates should treat as authoritative over any third-party summary.

Results feed into web-based counselling: rank-wise option entry across polytechnics, seat allotment by merit, category and local-area reservation, and certificate verification. Government polytechnic seats — with fees a fraction of private engineering colleges — are the prize, and the diploma-to-B.Tech lateral-entry route (via ECET) keeps the degree door open for those who want it later.

Accepted by: Government, aided and private polytechnics in Telangana for diploma courses in engineering, non-engineering and technology streams, plus agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, animal husbandry and fisheries diplomas at the respective participating institutions
