UCEEDUndergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design
About UCEED
UCEED is the national gateway to the four-year Bachelor of Design programmes of the IIT system, conducted annually by IIT Bombay on behalf of the participating institutes. The three-hour test combines a two-hour computer-based objective section (Part A: numerical, multiple-select and multiple-choice questions probing visualization, observation, reasoning and design awareness) with a one-hour subjective section (Part B) that tests sketching skill and design aptitude and is evaluated manually. Both parts are compulsory, and seats at the seven joint-allocation institutes are filled through a common counselling process run by the UCEED office.
Because eligibility is open to every 10+2 stream and the syllabus is aptitude-based rather than textbook-based, preparation centres on practising visual-reasoning question banks, drawing daily, and working through previous years' papers published on the official website. Candidates should note the attempt cap (two attempts in consecutive years) and category-wise age limits stated in each cycle's brochure, and that several dozen non-IIT universities accept UCEED scores through their own separate application processes.
Accepted by: B.Des programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur through joint seat allocation; 40+ other institutes and universities also accept UCEED scores through their own admission processes
