CBSE 2027 boards: your school has until 21 October to enter you. Check your name and subject codes before it does

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has sent principals two more reminders, dated 14 October and 15 October 2026, that the List of Candidates (LOC) for the 2027 Class 10 and Class 12 board exams must be submitted by Wednesday, 21 October 2026 at the normal fee. The LOC is your school’s official entry of you for the board exam, and the board’s circular is blunt: only students whose names go in through the LOC can sit the 2026-27 board exams.

Dates and fees

WindowDatesFee (schools in India)
Normal fee24 September to 21 October 2026₹1,600 per candidate for five subjects; ₹320 for each additional subject
Late fee22 to 30 October 2026₹2,000 per candidate on top of the normal fee

Class 12 students also pay ₹160 for each practical subject. Visually impaired candidates are exempt from the exam fee in both classes. Fees are higher for schools in Nepal and other countries.

Class 10: the first board exam is compulsory

Under CBSE’s two-board-exam policy of 26 June 2025, the first board examination, in February-March, is mandatory for every Class 10 candidate, and this LOC is for that exam. The LOC for the second Class 10 exam will be filled only after the first one is over, and students can take it in the same subjects their school enters now. The circular’s annexure says the second exam is for students who want to improve in up to three main subjects and for those placed in compartment. Schools have been told to brief Class 10 students and parents on it.

Why the details matter

  • Subjects will not be changed later. CBSE says requests to change subjects after the LOC is submitted will not be accepted.
  • Check the code, not just the subject name. The circular flags pairs that schools mix up: Hindi A (002) and Hindi B (085), Mathematics Standard (041) and Mathematics Basic (241) in Class 10; Hindi Core (302) and Hindi Elective (002), English Core (301) and English Elective (001), Mathematics (041) and Applied Mathematics (241) in Class 12.
  • Students with special needs must be entered on a separate CWSN portal, which closes before the LOC deadline. No student can be added as CWSN after that.
  • A combination outside CBSE’s scheme of studies makes the candidate ineligible.

The circular also tells schools not to demand income tax returns or other income proof from parents; parental income is recorded as the parents state it. The APAAR ID is optional.

One last check in November

After the deadline, schools will generate a data verification slip for every candidate. If a student’s name, a parent’s name, the date of birth or a subject is wrong, CBSE will allow corrections from 2 to 4 November 2026. After that, the board says, no correction will be allowed.

What to do now

  1. Ask your class teacher to show you your LOC entry before 21 October.
  2. Match your name and both parents’ names letter by letter with your Class 9 or Class 11 registration, and check your date of birth.
  3. Check every subject code, especially Mathematics Standard or Basic in Class 10.
  4. If you have a disability certificate, make sure the school has entered you on the CWSN portal.
  5. Look at your verification slip again between 2 and 4 November.
