GATE 2027 registration closes on 27 September — and there is a new Robotics paper
IIT Madras closes regular GATE 2027 registration on 27 September, with a late-fee window until 5 October. The exam runs across six days in February 2027, the syllabus has been revised for the first time in five years, and Robotics and Automation joins the paper list.
If an M.Tech seat, a PhD admission or a public-sector engineering job is anywhere in your plan for 2027, the application window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering shuts in eight days. Registration opened on 2 September and regular registration ends on 27 September 2026. A late-fee window stays open until 5 October.
Dates to put in your calendar
- Exam: 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027, in two sessions a day.
- Exam-city allotment: 4 January 2027.
- Results: 19 March 2027.
What changed this year
The organising institute has revised the syllabus for the first time in five years. A dedicated Robotics and Automation paper has been added, reflecting how much hiring has moved toward automation and intelligent systems. Textile Engineering and Fibre Science no longer stands alone — it now sits as a section inside the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper. Registration also runs through DigiLocker with facial authentication.
Fees
- Women candidates, and SC, ST and PwD candidates: ₹1,000 per test paper in the regular window, ₹1,500 in the late window.
- All other candidates, including foreign nationals: ₹2,000 per test paper, ₹2,500 in the late window.
Two things people get wrong
First, the two-paper option: you may attempt two papers only in permitted combinations, and each carries its own fee. Second, the photograph and signature specifications — a rejected upload at 11 pm on the last day is the single most common reason an application dies. Fill the form this weekend, not on 27 September.
