GSSSB opens 1,663 Work Assistant posts for civil diploma holders: apply on OJAS by 29 October

The Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB) has advertised 1,663 posts of Work Assistant, Class III (Advertisement No. 461/2026-27). The posts are in the Central Designs Organisation, Gandhinagar, which comes under the Narmada, Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpsar Department. Applications opened on OJAS at 7 pm on 15 October 2026 and close at 11:59 pm on 29 October 2026.

Within these, 113 posts are for candidates with benchmark disabilities and 166 for ex-servicemen. The board says the number of posts may still go up or down.

Who can apply

• Qualification: a diploma in civil engineering, or one of 23 equivalent diplomas the department recognises, such as construction technology, quantity surveying, survey engineering and transportation engineering. The advertisement is explicit that a candidate holding a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is not eligible.
• Basic computer knowledge as prescribed under Gujarat’s 1967 recruitment rules, and adequate Gujarati or Hindi, or both.
• Age: 18 to 33 years on 29 October 2026. General-category women and reserved-category men get five extra years, and reserved-category women get ten. Candidates with disabilities get up to 20 years depending on category, with an outer limit of 45.

Pay

A fixed ₹26,000 a month for the first five years. After five years of satisfactory service you move to the regular Level 4 scale of ₹25,500 to ₹81,100. The advertisement notes that this arrangement is subject to two Supreme Court cases still pending (SLP 14124/2012 and 14125/2012).

The exam

One multiple-choice paper of 210 questions in three hours, held on computer or on OMR sheets. Part A (90 marks) covers reasoning and data interpretation (30), quantitative aptitude (30), the Constitution (10), current affairs (10) and Gujarati and English comprehension (10). Part B (120 marks) is civil engineering with a tilt towards water: irrigation engineering carries 20 marks and water resource management 15, while surveying, soil mechanics, concrete technology, estimation, hydrology and hydraulics carry 10 each. A wrong answer costs a quarter mark, and you need 40% in each part separately.

What the last round looked like

The board has filled this cadre before. Its previous Work Assistant recruitment for the same office, Advertisement 304/2025-26, had 872 posts. The select list came out on 21 September 2026 and a 176-name waiting list on 15 October. The lowest totals on that waiting list were 119.47 for general, 116.69 for SC, 116.68 for SEBC, 111.08 for EWS and 93.60 for ST candidates.

What to do now

1. Apply on ojas.gujarat.gov.in before 11:59 pm on 29 October and note your confirmation number.
2. Pay the fee online by 11:59 pm on 1 November 2026: ₹500 for unreserved candidates, ₹400 for women, reserved categories, candidates with disabilities and ex-servicemen. It is refunded if you sit the exam. Applications without the fee are cancelled.
3. SEBC candidates need a non-creamy layer certificate issued between 1 April 2024 and 29 October 2026. Married women must use one based on their parents’ income.
4. Watch gsssb.gujarat.gov.in for the exam date and call letters.
