Gujarat board marksheets get a QR code, a bigger format and name-before-surname

GSHSEB has redesigned the Class 10 and 12 marksheet: the hologram makes way for a scannable QR code, name and surname get their own fields, and the sheet grows — changes aimed squarely at students who go on to study or work outside Gujarat.

Gujarat board marksheets get a QR code, a bigger format and name-before-surname

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has redesigned the Class 10 and Class 12 marksheet. On paper the changes look cosmetic. In practice they touch the document that gets examined every single time you apply anywhere new — a counselling desk, an employer’s HR file, a visa application.

What changed

  • A QR code replaces the hologram. Anyone can scan it to confirm the marksheet is genuine — so a college or employer outside Gujarat can verify a board document on the spot instead of writing to the board and waiting.
  • Name order reversed: first name before surname, matching how national forms and passports are read.
  • Separate fields for Name, Father’s Name and Surname, replacing the single run-together line.
  • A larger sheet, with a refreshed design and colour scheme.

The problem it is solving

The board’s stated aim is easier identification, particularly for students who go on to study or work outside the state or abroad. Anyone who has had an application frozen over a name mismatch will recognise it instantly: a marksheet that runs the whole name together, an Aadhaar card that splits it differently, a passport that does something else again — and a verification officer who will not proceed until they agree.

The hologram had a second weakness the QR code fixes. A hologram can only be judged by someone who already knows what a genuine one looks like. A scan can be checked by anybody.

One practical step

The redesigned marksheets followed the 2026 results, reaching students roughly a week after they were announced. If your older documents carry the surname-first format and your new marksheet does not, keep one spelling consistent across every form you fill from here on, and carry copies of both to any physical verification. It takes five minutes and saves a rejected application.
