Maharashtra TET leak chargesheet: question papers carried out of the press in shoe insoles

Police in Thane have filed a 3,500-page chargesheet before a Bhiwandi court over the leak of the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test, naming 18 accused. Sixteen have been arrested; two remain absconding.

How the papers left the press

According to the chargesheet, two employees at a printing press in Agra folded question papers and concealed them inside shoe insoles, for a payment of ₹8,000 each. Security at the press searched clothing but not footwear. The breach is placed between 15 and 17 June, and all four question sets were compromised.

The racket was uncovered a day before the examination scheduled for 28 June, and the test was postponed. A special investigation team is handling the case; the accused face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy, along with the state's law on malpractice at examinations.

What candidates are left holding

A postponed eligibility test is not a small inconvenience. For most candidates the TET is the gate to a teaching job: a delayed exam pushes back recruitment cycles, and aspirants near an age limit lose attempts they cannot recover. There is also the quieter cost — every leak makes the next examination slower and more suspicious, with more verification, more restrictions and more centres far from home.

The part worth remembering

Leaks in this class of case almost never start with the candidate. They start at a printing press, a transport contractor or a storage room, months before anyone sits down to write. That is also why buying a "paper" from an intermediary is a losing bet twice over: most such offers are frauds, and the ones that are not end with the buyer named in a chargesheet like this one.
