Missed GATE 2027? IIT Madras reopens registration for 24 hours, from 10:30 am on 15 October

IIT Madras, which is organising the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, has reopened its application portal for one last short window. The notice of 14 October 2026 says that, "due to multiple requests", registration with a late fee will be open from 10:30 am on Thursday, 15 October to 10:29 am on Friday, 16 October 2026. The portal had closed on 12 October.

The 24-hour window

  • Opens: 15 October 2026, 10:30 am
  • Closes: 16 October 2026, 10:29 am
  • The portal is goaps.iitm.ac.in. Indian nationals must register through DigiLocker, and the GATE office warns candidates not to delete their DigiLocker accounts after applying, because all later communication goes through that account.

What it costs

CandidateOne paperTwo papers
Female, SC, ST and PwD candidates₹1,500₹2,500
All other candidates, including foreign nationals₹2,500₹4,500

These are the extended-period (late fee) amounts on the GATE site. In the regular period, the fees were ₹1,000 and ₹2,000. The fee is non-refundable, and IIT Madras says unpaid applications will be deleted after the portal closes.

Already applied? Fix mistakes by 21 October

The application rectification window opened on 14 October and runs until 21 October 2026. Most changes cost ₹500 per paper: changing your category, PwD status, exam cities or paper. A change that moves you into a higher fee bracket, such as moving from SC/ST to general as a male candidate, costs ₹500 plus the fee difference of ₹1,000.
