UCEED 2027 registration is open: apply by 31 October for B.Des at seven IITs and IIITDM
IIT Bombay has launched UCEED 2027, the entrance test for B.Des programmes at IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur. Students from any stream can apply from 1 to 31 October; the exam is on 17 January 2027.
IIT Bombay has released the UCEED 2027 information brochure and opened its website. The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design is the route into the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur. Registration at the regular fee began at 5 pm on 1 October.

Who can apply
- Students who first appeared in Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2026 or 2027, from any stream: science, commerce or arts. The brochure carves out a narrow exception for boards that declared 2025 results late, so check it if that is you.
- Age: born on or after 1 October 2002 (general, EWS and OBC-NCL), or on or after 1 October 1997 (SC, ST and PwD).
- Attempts: at most two, in consecutive years. A score is valid for one year and only for that year's admission.
Fee and the test
The registration fee is ₹2,000 for women of all categories and for SC, ST and PwD candidates, and ₹4,000 for everyone else. It is non-refundable.
The paper is a three-hour, centre-based test of 300 marks: Part A is a two-hour computer-based section worth 200 marks (numerical-answer, multiple-select and multiple-choice questions); Part B is a one-hour sketching and drawing section worth 100 marks, answered on paper. It is held in 30 Indian cities, and you must list three in order of preference.
Tip
Registration is the easy part. Use the months before January to practise sketching by hand under time pressure, because Part B is where many applicants lose marks.
