Scholarships

FREE-BASIC-MESS Details

Students who belong to the category (SC/ST) and whose annual income of parents is less than 4.5 lakhs. Students availing of this scholarship will receive a free basic meal in the mess and a pocket allowance.

SPORTS Details

A total of 20 scholarships in this type of scholarship is provided to the students who reflect leadership in activities related to sports on the campus which in turn leads to their growth, development and increased participation in various sports activities. The amount that is allotted to candidates is Rs. 1,000/- given on a per month basis for 9 months to the students under this scheme of scholarship of IIT Kanpur. The criteria of the display in Inter-IIT and other sports that are external and meet the excellence criteria will be taken into consideration.

EXTERNAL Details

It is the aim of the institute to help its students in applying for various scholarships that are available externally. A list pertaining to the same is available on the institute website relating to the students who have availed of such scholarships in the past and also as all details are not made available even the external links may provide details pertaining to the same. The Government of India (GoI) under The Prime Minister's Digital India programme, has created the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for students across the whole nation to provide detailed information about various GoI scholarships and so that no eligible candidate is left out of not availing the benefit of such scholarships.

Convocation Medals/Prizes/Awards

The institute has always endeavoured to recognize the achievements at academic levels of its students in the form of several medals, convocation awards, and prizes that are provided to the students at the time when they graduate during the convocation ceremony. Donor Details

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur provides Donor Scholarships to needy and worthy students. A total of 115 scholarships are awarded for it. Students need to maintain a minimum CPI of more than 6.0 to avail the benefits of the scholarship. Later on, this criteria may be relaxed to more than 1.5 CPI for the mean calculation of students. If no one receives the donor scholarship in a particular year then the amount of such scholarship will be double the amount in the next year for that scholarship. Details of the criteria and eligibility of these 115 Donor Scholarships that are available for students is as follows:

ANURAG BARTARIA MEMORIAL Details

It is provided to a candidate who is Under Graduate from the department of MSE of any year in a 4 or a 5year programme, whose minimum TFAI amongst all other eligible applicants is highest, and the student who is not a recipient of any other scholarship from the institute.

ARAKERE AND KAREN VASUDEV Details

It is assigned to applicants from 3rd year students of Under Graduation in a 4-yr or a 5-yr programme of Engineering department of Chemical on the basis of the highest CPI at the end of the initial two years.

ARPITA MAHILA MANDAL Details

It is provided to two girls who are the neediest UG girl students of any department in the institute for a 4 or 5year course that is based on central means of the MCM-Donor. At the end of 1st semester the accumulated CPI will be considered for the purpose of awarding the scholarships.

AVIATION DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

It is provided to a 3rd year UG student in a 4 or 5year programme of the AE department. Names for this scholarship are recommended by the Head of Department, AE. Total of Two awards are provided.

BIMLAVATI AND NAWAL KISHORE KAPUR Details

All those girl students who are doing under graduation in their 3rd year in a programme that is of total duration of 4 or 5 year of the CSE or the BSBE stream will be awarded the fellowship based on the criteria of the MCM-Donor.

DR. PRATEEK MISHRA MEMORIAL Details

It is allotted to a student who is doing Under Graduation from the department of Electronic Engineering on the criteria of the CPI at the beginning of the second year.

HARISH AND SUSHILA CHANDRA Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in the 3rd year of a 4 or 5-year course from CSE or EE stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor.

INDRA DHANUSH AWARD Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in a 4 or 5-year course from CSE or EE stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor. And including activities such as extra-curricular activities, debate/quiz, sports, cultural etc.

JAYALAKSMI Details

Allotted to a girl student who is doing under graduation in any stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor.

K.N. SALUJA Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in a 4 or 5-year course department of CE based on the criteria of merit alone. A total of 8 scholarships are offered from which 2 are provided for students from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year respective batches. Based on calculation of the CPI obtained at the end of each year. Only for the students who are still in their first year of CE course their marks of the semester 1 will be taken into account for the calculation of CPI.

KHEM CHANDRA YADAV Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in any stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor. Total of two scholarships are allotted.

KHEMCHAND MEMORIAL Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in any stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor.

LALIT KISHORE CHAUDHARY MEMORIAL Details

The Head of the department of ME nominates the name of the candidate who has done the best research in a competition that has been checked by the scientific journal. It is allotted to a student from the department of ME.

NITISH THAKOR Details

It is assigned to a candidate from the1st year of the UG course of the department of BSBE and later one award is provided to a student from the 2nd year UG of the department of BSBE on the basis of MCM-Donor criteria. The SPI at the beginning of the 2nd semester is to be considered.

P.D. MURTI Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in the 2nd year of a 4 or 5-year course from CSE stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor.

PUSPA GARG Details

The Chairperson of the committee of sports recommends the name to the SSPC of the student who has been the best sports person incoming in the 1st year of a 4 year or 5-year course.

S.C. MEHROTRA Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in the of a 2-year course from CE stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor.

SAGNIK ASIS RAY Details

It is provided to an applicant from the 4th year of the UG course of the department of BSBE on the basis of the cancer research by the student. Names of the students are to be recommended by the department of BSBE.

SHANTI DEVI & ONKAR NATH Details

It is to be provided to a 3rd year UG girl student of CSE department based on the highest CPI. No limit on TFAI.

SHRI RANBIR & SHRIMATI MAHADEVI CHAUHAN Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation of a 3rd year or 4th year of a 4 or 5-year course from CHE stream that is according to the criteria on MCM-Donor and the name recommended by the Department Head of CHE..

SHRIMATI BHAGWATI RAMESHWAR GOYAL Details

It is assigned to a candidate from the 2nd year girl student of UG course of department of BSBE and ME on the basis of MCM-Donor criteria. CPI that is more than or equal to that of 7.5 is required to be eligible.

SRI JAMUNA PRASAD & SMT. BASANTI GUPTA Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in a 4 or 5-year course from MSE stream that is according to the criteria on TFAI.

STEEL Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in of a 4 or 5-year course from MSE stream that is according to the criteria of CPI and project in the area of steel and iron. Total of two scholarships.

VIMAL MADAN MEMORIAL Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation of a 4 or 5-year course from the CSE stream. The fellowship is provided in order of preference as listed below:A student who is physically handicapped irrespective of TFAI or gender.A student who is female and has obtained the lowest TFAI.Any student whose criteria for MCM-Donor are fulfilled and not from the (1) or (2) above is recommended to be available.Names of the students are to be suggested by the department head of CSE.

Details

Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarships: The Institute gives Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarships to meritorious and needy students. Details and Criteria are given below: An undergraduate (UG) student in the 4-year, 5-year, or 2-year M.Sc. program can receive the MCM scholarship subject to the following criteria/conditions: 1) Up to 25% of the students in a batch may be awarded the MCM scholarship. From the total number of MCM Scholarships available in each batch, 20% shall be reserved for students belonging to the SC/ST category. The SC/ST students are not to be compared with the GN/OBC students. 2) The MCM scholarships unutilized in a batch may be transferred to another batch. Similarly, the MCM scholarships unutilized in SC/ST category may be transferred to other category students. 3) A student should have a CPI of 6.5 or above to be eligible to receive a full MCM scholarship (freeship + pocket allowance). If the CPI of a student falls below 6.5 (but remains above 6.0), then the pocket allowance is withdrawn. 4) For the first-year UG students, common JEE-AIR or marks obtained will be used for awarding the MCM scholarship. 5) A student must not have had an 'F' grade(s) in one or more courses in the last two regular semesters to receive the MCM scholarship. 6) Total Family Annual Income (TFAI) of the student from all sources should be less than 6.0 lacs. 7) The student must not be getting any other scholarship either from IIT Kanpur or from any other external sources.

Inspire Scholarships: The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India gives Scholarships for Higher Education (SHE), called INSPIRE-SHE Scholarships, to the students enrolled in undergraduate programs in natural and basic sciences all across the country in order to inspire them to become leading scientists. The details of the INSPIRE Scholarship are provided below: 1) Students pursuing 4-Year BS and 5-Year BS-MS Dual Degree programs in natural and basic sciences AND have secured rank within top 10,000 in JEE-AIR are eligible to apply for INSPIRE Scholarship. 2) Applicants must have secured marks within top 1% of their board 3) Applicants must have secured rank within top 10,000 in JEE-AIR 4) Applicants are KVPY, NTSE, JBNSTS scholar, or International Olympiad medalist 5) As per the DST guidelines, the students pursuing BS program in Economics and B. IIT Kanpur Details

IIT Kanpur (IITK) offers a variety of scholarships to the candidates who are on its campus. IIT Kanpur scholarship wants none of its students should be kept void from the renowned institute due to the problem of finance lack. IIT Kanpur announces the continuation of the prestigious "Bright Minds Scholarships" and congratulates JEE Advanced 2024 Achievers. Eligible students will be awarded an annual scholarship of Rs. 3 lakh, covering their expenses throughout their undergraduate programme. Bright Minds Scholarships are offered for all four years of the UG programme, provided the students maintain a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 8.0. Four scholarships out of which two are for 2nd year and remainder two for the students who are from 3rd year. BALASUBRAMANIAN AND VISALAKSHI SCHOLARSHIP It is provided to a student from Mechanical Engineering of 1st year UG course or departm The committee appointed to provide scholarships of the institute will determine the criteria of grade points that is the CPI of a student that should be more than or equal to a particular score required and who needs to be eligible for the IIT Kanpur scholarship. A student cannot take more than one IIT Kanpur scholarship or financial aid in one academic year.

BALASUBRAMANIAN AND VISALAKSHI Details

It is provided to a student from Mechanical Engineering of 1st year UG course or department of CSE based on the maximum score that is obtained in JEE-AIR. A student who is elected in the process in first year will continue to get the benefits of the fellowship for the remaining duration of their programme of Under graduation, provided that they keep on maintaining the required score of merits as per MCM-Donor criteria that prevails.

INSPIRE Details

A research grant that amounts to Rs.20000 along with an annual scholarship of Rs.60000 will be provided in two slabs of Rs 30000 on a per semester basis. Scholarships are provided to the Students of B.S. programmes whose ALL INDIA RANK (AIR) 10,000 is as per requirement in the Common Merit LIST (CML) in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics departments will be eligible for availing this scholarship. Students who apply for this scholarship must submit an undertaking to the SSPC on a semester basis for not availing any other scholarship. Those students who have availed or maintained a CPI of 6.0 are eligible for this scholarship as this is a scholarship that is merit-based.

SMT. PADMAVATHY & PROF. R. SHANKAR Details

Allotted to a girl student who is doing under graduation in the 2nd year of 2 2-year course of M.Sc in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics that is according to the criteria of MCM-Donor.

SEEMA JAIN MEMORIAL JAIN Details

Allotted to a girl student who is doing under graduation in the 2 year course of M.Sc in Chemistry that is according to the criteria of the maximum CPI obtained.

SMT. DURGA DEVI MEMORIAL Details

Allotted to a girl student who is doing under graduation in the 2nd year of 2 2-year course of M.Sc in Chemistry that is according to the criteria of the maximum CPI obtained. The name of the student has to be provided by the department head of CHM.

Academic Excellence Awards

The institute has always taken pride in recognizing the achievements that are academic of its institute students in the way of many academic excellence awards. These awards are presented to those merit-based students of IIT Kanpur who have successfully secured a CPI of 8.5 and above in their respective previous academic year. Over here the CPI of the last academic year (API) is computed solely on the basis of the last academic year.No student participation is required for availing this scholarship and all the necessary formalities regarding the scholarship will be taken out by the authorities in the institute. There are also many scholarships that are provided externally by State governments, government offices, industries at large etc. Information pertaining to the same is updated from time to time by the concerned related departments. A student who is willing to apply for such external scholarships must complete the formalities for such on his own and contact the SSPC for the formalities which is an essential requirement on the part of the institute to be done. Other scholarships that are also provided such as many Donors’ scholarships are presented by the SSPC. A student will automatically be eligible for these scholarships by applying for Merit-cum-means scholarships by submitting their respective annual Income certificates of parents.

GURU JI GHASHIT RAM Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in a 4 or 5-year course from any stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor and also at the end of 2nd year score of CPI is taken into consideration. Total of two scholarships are awarded at the end of second and third year respectively on the criteria of the performance of the student at the end of that particular year.

IIT LONDON CHAPTER MCM Details

Allotted to a girl student who is doing under graduation in the second year in a 4 or 5-year course from any stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor. IITLC will be provided with three names and it will select the applicants who will be awarded the fellowship. It is to be noted that only those students will be eligible to take benefit of this scholarship who has not been availing any other scholarship alongside.

SHANTI AND RAMKISHORE SAHAI SAXENA MEMORIAL Details

It is provided to a student from any department of 1st year UG course based on the maximum score that is obtained in JEE-AIR

LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT Details

Total of 6 Students having specialization in supply chain management wherein at least 2 scholarships out of the total 6 will be provided to girl students of MBA from the department of IME. The Department Head of the IME has the authority to decide the committee that will have the power to nominate the students who will receive the scholarship. Also one company from the fellowship providing company will be also part of the committee. The criteria of eligibility is to obtain a CPI that is more than or equal to 7.0.

Class of 1968 Creative Research Proposal Prize

The best research that is creative and the proposal will be awarded the prize.4th-year students who are undergraduates and 2nd-year students who is from post-graduation of any discipline or programme will be awarded the prize.All those students who are pursuing the BTP/UGP or any undergraduate student or a group of students from the fourth year are eligible for the purpose.For the students who are postgraduate, only MSc. - Ph.D. Dual Degree/ MS(R)/ M.Tech/ M.Des./ MBA/ Ph.D. will be eligible for consideration.Only a scholarship wherein a student who has applied and is eligible for another scholarship can also avail of this particular scholarship.

ANIL AND RESHMA NIGAM Details

It will be allotted to a candidate who is a student of the 3rd year UG programme of the department of Aeronautical Engineering in 4th year or the 5year course based on the criteria of MCM-Donor.

JASMINE & MOHIUDDIN'S Details

The Statistics and Mathematics department suggests the name of the student to whom this scholarship is to be awarded and it generally iis offered to the student of M. SC 2 year programmes 2nd year students depending on the criteria of the CPI scored by the student.

It is provided to a candidate from a 3rd year UG student of the department of EE in the 4 or 5year programme on the criteria of the maximum CPI. Limit on TFAI is not taken into consideration over here.

BABU RAM JAIN MEMORIAL Details

It is allotted to a candidate of the 1st year Under Graduation from any department of engineering on the criteria of the lowest TFAI. The student availing this scholarship should not be availing any other fellowship.

BALAJIT & NIRMAL DHINDSA Details

It is assigned to a candidate from the1st year of UG course of the department of BSBE and later one award is provided to a student from the 2nd year UG of the department of BSBE on the basis of the CPI that is maximum achieved by the student. BGM KUMAR FOUNDATION Details(Three Details)

The below mentioned selection/eligibility criteria will be applied for awarding the scholarships for these three types:A student who is undergraduate from any of the year or department can participate,The Annual Income of the family from all the sources of the parents of the student should not be more than 1.5 lacs,Fellowship will not be provided to students who have qualified for tuitions that are free.A girl student will be getting first preference.

CLASS OF 1984 Details

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in a 4 or 5-year course from any stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor and has extra-curricular activities involved in it Interview of the candidates are conducted if needed. Total of four such scholarships are awarded wherein one scholarship per batch is allotted of each year student from 1st year till 4th year and the 5th year students are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. A committee is appointed by the SSPC and the candidate who is eligible to receive the scholarship as per the MCM Donor criteria will keep on receiving the scholarship benefits unless and until they fail to meet the criteria of the MCM Donor criteria and in such cases the scholarship will be provided to the student who came second after the student who had been provided with the scholarship.

DILIP KOHLI MEMORIAL Details

Allotted to a girl student who is doing under graduation in the first year in a 4 or 5-year course from any stream that is according to the criteria of the CPI at the first year end. If the student is able to maintain the CPI that is more than or equal to 8 for the total academic year than she will continue to enjoy the benefits of the scholarships. TFAI limit is not applicable on this fellowship

Allotted to a student who is doing under graduation in the 3rd year of a 4 or 5-year course from any stream that is according to the criteria of the MCM-Donor and also at the end of 2nd year score of CPI is taken into consideration.

DR. GURUCHARAN SINGH KAINTH Details

Allotted to a girl student who is doing under graduation in the second year in a 4 or 5-year course from any stream that is according to the criteria of the CPI at the first year end. If the student is able to maintain the CPI that is more than or equal to 6.5 for the total academic year then she will continue to enjoy the benefits of the scholarships for the remaining 3 years.

SENGUPTA GRANT

The grant amount that will be provided in this scholarship is Rs.3500/- per month for 10 months in total which a student can utilise for the purpose of the equipment, books and miscellaneous expenses that are needed to carry out activities related to research and the conditions that are required to fulfil the same are as below:Students who are from the MTech of the Department of Civil Engineering with a specialisation in Structural Engineering are able to get the scholarship.Criteria of the MCM donor have to be fulfilled by the student of the IIT Kanpur. For selection procedure approach that is means-centric on the basis of the MCM donor ranking is to be used.At the start of the MTech programme in the 2nd year this scholarship will be awarded.

Aditya Birla Scholarship for the top 20 students (in terms of their AIR in JEE Advanced). Some of these students are shortlisted for an interview on the basis of their application. This scholarship is then awarded on the basis of the interview.

Details

INSPIRE Scholarship amounting to INR 30000/- per semester (Rs. 60,000 annually), along with a research grant of Rs.20,000. Students of B.S programs within the ALL INDIA RANK (AIR) 10,000 as per Common Merit LIST (CML) in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics departments are eligible for this scholarship. This is a merit based scholarship; hence, the recipients must maintain a minimum CPI of 6.0.

Financial Assistance

Basic Mess and Pocket Allowance to SC/ST students with annual parental income less than 4.5 lakhs. Under this scholarship students receive free basic mess bill and a pocket allowance of INR 250/- pm.

The GATE COAP 2026 seat allotment results for round 3 have been released for admission to the ME/MTech courses. Candidates can choose to accept & freeze, retain & wait, or reject & wait by May 27, 2026 (till 9 AM).
