Gujarat’s SHODH PhD stipend closes at 6 pm on 19 October: ₹15,000 a month for full-time research scholars
Gujarat’s SHODH scheme pays full-time PhD scholars at the state’s universities ₹15,000 a month for up to two years, plus ₹20,000 a year for research costs. Online applications for 2026-27 close at 6 pm on Monday, 19 October 2026, and your university’s nodal officer must verify your documents by 6 pm on 30 October.

The Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG) is taking applications for SHODH (Scheme of Developing High Quality Research) for 2026-27. The scheme, set up by a 5 August 2019 resolution of the state’s Education Department, supports full-time PhD scholars at universities in Gujarat. The online window on shodh.gujarat.gov.in opened on 1 September and closes at 6 pm on Monday, 19 October 2026.

What you get
A stipend of ₹15,000 a month for up to two years, plus ₹20,000 a year for research expenses. KCG puts the total at ₹2 lakh a year, or ₹4 lakh over two years.
Who can apply
- Scholars admitted to a regular, full-time PhD at a recognised government, sectoral or private university or research institution in Gujarat, on or after 1 July 2018.
- You must not be receiving any state or national scholarship for research, and must not be earning an income from any source.
- The other conditions in the 2019 resolution also apply. A part-time PhD does not qualify.
Two deadlines, not one
| Step | Deadline |
|---|---|
| Submit and lock the online application | 19 October 2026, 6 pm |
| Verification of original documents by your university’s SHODH nodal officer, on the portal | 30 October 2026, 6 pm |
KCG’s instructions of 18 September are blunt about the second step. If the nodal officer has not verified your application by 30 October, it will not go to the scrutiny committee and will be cancelled automatically. An application the committee rejects will not be reconsidered.
What to keep ready
- Aadhaar, and a bank account linked to it (passbook first page or cancelled cheque).
- Class 10 and 12 marksheets and school leaving certificate, plus graduation and postgraduation marksheets and degrees.
- PhD registration certificate and fee receipt, a bonafide certificate from your head of department or guide, and a university ID card certified by the registrar or director.
- A research proposal signed and stamped by your guide and head of department. Its first page must show your name, your guide’s name, the subject and the research title.
- A 10-page synopsis of your PhD topic and a 15 to 20 slide presentation, signed by you and your guide, plus an anti-plagiarism report.
- A ration card copy, a category or disability certificate if it applies, and a self-declaration countersigned by your guide, head of department and nodal officer.
What to do now
- Finish and lock your application before 6 pm on 19 October. Do not leave it for the last hour.
- Book time with your university’s SHODH nodal officer before 19 October. Hard copies of the form, the plagiarism report, the signed proposal and the presentation go to that office.
- For help, KCG’s helpline is 9979200152 and its email is [email protected], on working days.
