NMC reopens Eligibility Certificate applications for FMGE aspirants: 1 to 7 October
The National Medical Commission has given a second window to students who missed the 30 September deadline for the Eligibility Certificate needed to sit the FMGE Screening Test. Applications run from 10 am on 1 October to 6 pm on 7 October, and incomplete forms will be rejected.
The Ethics & Medical Registration Board of the National Medical Commission has reopened the online application for the Eligibility Certificate. The original window, announced on 28 August, ran from 1 to 30 September. The board says some candidates wrote in that technical problems stopped them from submitting in time, and it has decided to give them one more chance.
The new window
| Step | Date and time |
|---|---|
| Online applications open | 1 October 2026, from 10 am |
| Last date to submit | 7 October 2026, till 6 pm |
Applications go through the NMC's online application portal. After the closing time, the board says the portal will be shut.
Why this certificate matters
NMC's 28 August notice links the certificate to the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) Screening Test. Candidates who are required to hold an Eligibility Certificate cannot apply for the screening test without one. The notice says the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences may schedule the test in the coming months; no date has been published in these notices.
Who should apply and who should not
- Apply now only if you have not yet obtained the certificate and could not submit earlier.
- If you applied to NMC for the certificate in the past, you need not apply again.
How to avoid rejection
NMC warns that incomplete applications in any form will be summarily rejected, and that issuing the certificate involves multiple eligibility checks under the regulations. Its advisory lists the mistakes it has seen before:
- Fill the form yourself rather than through a middleman.
- Keep your original documents next to you and check every entry against them.
- Give a mobile number that stays active, so that any deficiency alert reaches you directly. Clear it quickly instead of waiting for the last day.
After you submit, you get a file tracking number. NMC says status queries sent to its eligibility email addresses will get no reply unless that number is quoted, so save it.
The board also asks applicants not to wait for the final day. A deficiency flagged on 6 October leaves you very little time to fix it.
