UP MBBS round 2 is being run again — choice filling closes at 11 am on 24 September
Uttar Pradesh has scrapped and reissued its second-round state counselling. A fresh merit list came out on 21 September, choice filling is open until 11:00 am on 24 September, and the new allotment result is due on 25 September.
Uttar Pradesh's second round of state-quota MBBS and BDS counselling has been taken apart and rebuilt. The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training put the round on hold on 17 September, and has now issued a revised schedule that starts the round again from the merit list.
The revised dates
- State merit list for round 2: published 21 September.
- Choice filling: from 2:00 pm on 21 September to 11:00 am on 24 September.
- Seat allotment result: 25 September.
- Allotment letter download and admission at the allotted college: 26 September to 1 October.
If you filled choices for the earlier version of round 2, that list is not what will be used. The round is being processed on the new merit list, so the only choices that count are the ones entered in this window.
The backdrop: a stay on a 91% quota
The re-run follows a serious legal question about how seats in four state medical colleges were being reserved. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court stayed a state notification under which reservation at the government medical colleges in Kannauj, Saharanpur, Ambedkar Nagar and Jalaun had reached roughly 91% of seats — by one account, 78 of 85 MBBS seats in those colleges.
The bench allowed counselling to continue on the reservation percentages that apply at every other government medical college in the state — 21% for Scheduled Castes, 2% for Scheduled Tribes and 27% for Other Backward Classes — and issued a show-cause notice to the Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education, over the state's failure to bring the arrangement in line with the statutory provisions. Counsel for the petitioners told the court the state had earlier undertaken to fix this from the 2026-27 session.
What a UP candidate should do today
Log in, check that you are on the new merit list, and rebuild your preference order from scratch — the seat pool at those four colleges is materially different from what it looked like a fortnight ago. Do not wait for the 24th: the window shuts at 11:00 am, which is a morning deadline, not an end-of-day one.
