GATE 2027 exam date and session-wise schedule

The brochure says which paper runs in which session "will be notified later" on the GATE 2027 website. You sit only the session on your admit card, and marks in multi-session papers are normalised. In GATE 2026, CS and CE were the multi-session papers, according to IIT Guwahati's statistical report. All dates are "liable to change".

Is GATE 2027 registration closed or extended?

Closed. The dates moved several times, which is why students kept asking whether it was postponed:

IIT Madras reopened the portal "due to multiple requests" in its 14 October 2026 notification.

Two papers cost ₹2,000 or ₹4,000 in the regular period, and the fee page lists ₹2,500 or ₹4,500 with late fee. Fees are non-refundable.

GATE 2027 application correction window: what to do now

1. Log in to GOAPS (goaps.iitm.ac.in) with the DigiLocker account you applied with. Do not delete that account; IIT Madras sends all later communication through it.
2. Check your status. "Application accepted" needs no action; "incomplete or defective" means fix the flagged item.
3. By 21 October 2026, change your category, paper, exam cities or personal details, or add a second paper. The brochure says an extra fee may apply per change.
4. Do not file a second application. Only one is accepted; the rest are rejected without refund.

GATE 2027 admit card release date

Not announced as of 16 October 2026. It will be downloadable only from GOAPS. Print it on A4, preferably in colour, and carry the original photo ID named in your form, such as Aadhaar, passport, PAN, voter ID or driving licence. A phone copy is not accepted. Last cycle, GATE 2026 admit cards were set for 2 January 2026, postponed, and released on 13 January 2026.

GATE 2027 papers and the new Robotics and Automation paper

GATE 2027 has 30 papers: AE, AG, AR, BM, BT, CE, CH, CS, CY, DA, EC, EE, ES, EY, GE, GG, IN, MA, ME, MN, MT, NM, PE, PH, PI, RA, ST, XE, XH and XL, all in English.

Robotics and Automation (RA) has General Aptitude (15 marks), a common Part A (60 marks), and Part B1 Electrical or B2 Mechanical (25 marks), chosen during the exam. The RA syllabus puts engineering mathematics, mechatronics basics (circuits, sensors, actuators, Python, data structures) and robotics and automation principles (manipulators, kinematics, PLCs, CNC) in Part A. B1 covers analog and embedded systems, signals and control; B2 covers mechanics of materials, dynamics and machine design.

Renamed sections: XE-A to XE-I become XE0 to XE8 (old TF is XE9); XH-B1 and C1-C6 become XH0 to XH6; XL-P to XL-U become XL0 to XL5.

Two-paper combinations for GATE 2027

From the combinations page:

Mining Engineering (MN) allows no second paper. A second paper may be at a different centre in the same city.

GATE 2027 exam pattern and marking scheme

Every paper has 65 questions for 100 marks in three hours, on a computer with an on-screen calculator. General Aptitude is 10 questions for 15 marks. In AE, AG, BM, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, ES, IN, ME, MN, MT, NM, PE and PI, the other 85 marks include 13 of engineering mathematics. XE has a 15-mark mathematics section (XE0), and in the other papers all 85 marks are subject questions.

You cannot log in more than 15 minutes after the start.

GATE 2027 syllabus: where to download it and what changed

Download your paper's PDF from the Test Papers and Syllabus page; General Aptitude has its own. IIT Madras says the syllabi are revised, and the brochure says this covers most papers. Comparing the 2026 and 2027 PDFs for two large papers:

• CS (2027, 2026): Digital Logic now names Karnaugh maps and tabular minimisation; Computer Organisation adds hardwired and microprogrammed control unit design and cache mapping; Computer Networks is shorter, naming DNS and HTTP and dropping SMTP, FTP, UDP, ARP, DHCP and ICMP from the list.
• CE (2027, 2026): Construction Materials and Management becomes its own Section 8, adding cement, quantity estimation methods, construction equipment and types of contracts.

Who can give the GATE exam in 2027? Eligibility

From the eligibility page: students in the third or higher year of any undergraduate degree, or graduates of any government-approved degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts or humanities. Three-year B.Sc., B.A., B.Com. and BCA students qualify from the third year; M.B.B.S. and B.D.S. students from the fifth semester. There is no age limit and no limit on attempts.

GATE 2027 exam cities in Gujarat

Gujarat is in the IIT Bombay zone, with Goa and Maharashtra. The exam cities list names seven Gujarat cities:

All city choices had to be from one zone, and GATE may allot a city you did not pick. The GATE 2026 figures come from IIT Guwahati's statistical report, which counts each paper separately.

Using the score in Gujarat:

1. IIT Gandhinagar admits M.Tech students through its own application, with offers on COAP. Its 2026-27 M.Tech poster listed 11 programmes and a ₹12,400 monthly scholarship for eligible full-time students. Its Early Admit M.Tech does not need GATE, but pays ₹15,400 a month with a valid score against ₹6,000 without.
2. CCMT: the CCMT 2026 institute list includes SVNIT Surat, IIIT Surat, IIIT Vadodara (Gandhinagar campus) and IITRAM.
3. ACPC Gujarat: for 2026-27 state M.E./M.Tech. seats, ACPC first admitted GATE-qualified candidates on GATE merit, then filled the rest through PGCET, which they did not have to take (ACPC instructions). The 2027-28 schedule is not announced as of 16 October 2026.

GATE 2027 result date, score validity and qualifying marks

Results come on 19 March 2027. Scorecards go only to candidates at or above their paper's SC/ST/PwD qualifying mark; after a free period, they cost ₹500 per paper until 31 December 2027. The score is valid for three years.

The qualifying mark: for General candidates it is the paper's mean plus one standard deviation, but never below 25 or above 40 out of 100. OBC-NCL and EWS get 90% of that; SC, ST and PwD two-thirds. That mark maps to a GATE score of 350.

What is the GATE 2027 score used for?

• M.Tech and direct Ph.D. admission in Ministry of Education-supported institutes. The GATE 2027 site puts M.Tech assistance at ₹12,400 a month, generally for 22 months.
• CCMT (website): one counselling for NITs, IIEST Shibpur and some IIITs and CFTIs. CCMT 2026 took GATE 2024, 2025 and 2026 scores, ranked by GATE score, and asked for 6.5 CGPA or 60% (6.0 or 55% for SC/ST/PwD).
• COAP for IITs and IISc (COAP 2026): you apply to each institute separately and accept offers on COAP. Registration is free.
• PSU jobs: the GATE site lists PSUs that have used scores, such as BHEL, GAIL, IOCL, NTPC, ONGC and POWERGRID. For GATE 2026, IIT Guwahati's site said NPCIL would use CE, CH, EC, EE, IN and ME scores. No GATE 2027 recruiter notice had appeared as of 16 October 2026.

Qualifying does not guarantee admission, a scholarship or a job.
