About IIT Bombay

Founded in 1958 as part of a government initiative, IIT Bombay (IITB) received major backing from UNESCO and the USSR's government. It is an autonomous institute and a deemed university, and its board of governors is headed by India's President. The UGC and AICTE have approved it.

Its courses cover BTech, MTech, BTech+MTech, BDes, MDes, MBA, BS, Executive MBA, MSc, MA and PhD, and they are offered full-time, part-time and online. The institute has 17 departments, 35+ centres and 3 interdisciplinary programmes, with one academic advisory body. Fees start at Rs 1.14 lakhs and reach Rs 8.69 lakhs.

Entry to the BTech depends on JEE Advanced, B.Des on UCEED, M.Tech and M.Sc on GATE and JAM respectively. Candidates must also meet the cutoff. PhD applicants face a written paper before an interview. NIRF has ranked IITB among the top three engineering institutes of the country for more than 10 years.

Merit-cum-Means scholarship: Merit cum Means scholarship is awarded to a maximum of 25% of sanctioned Intake of undergraduate students. For Dual Degree, it is available only up to the 4th year. For these scholarships, academic merit as well as means will be taken into account to determine eligibility. Women Merit Scholarship is a special provision for female students of UG programmes only. 1. Students whose parental income is upto Rs. 1 Lakh : Women - • Exemption from payment of Tuition fee. • Scholarship of Rs. 40,000/ per year. • Women Merit Scholarship of Rs. 10,000/ per year. Others- • Exemption from payment of Tuition fee. • Scholarship of Rs. 40,000/ per year. 2. Almost 50% of the students from our batch got placed, and the same happened with the senior batch. The highest salary package offered was around 15 LPA.
