Reading these numbers correctly

Three things a 2027 aspirant should take from the table. First, the 36-point gap between computer science at Pilani and at Hyderabad is the price of the campus name, not of the syllabus. The degree is the same institution's. Second, the bracketing rule applies: when more candidates land on a particular score than there are seats, physics, chemistry and mathematics scores are used to separate them, so a borderline score is not a guaranteed seat. Third, the spread between computer science and the core engineering branches at the same campus is smaller than most aspirants assume, which makes a second and third preference worth thinking about properly rather than filling in as an afterthought.
