Where the seats are

The largest blocks are Karnataka (581), Uttar Pradesh (409), Tamil Nadu (391), Andhra Pradesh (247), Kerala (240), Maharashtra (205), West Bengal (150) and Telangana (134). Haryana has 114, Bihar 122, Madhya Pradesh 110, Odisha 104, Gujarat 89, Delhi 93, and Punjab and Rajasthan 96 each. You can apply for only one state, then rank its districts.

How selection works

  • No exam. The bank draws up a state-wise merit list from your Class 12 or diploma percentage, not your degree marks. Ties go to the older candidate.
  • Minimum 60% in Class 12 or diploma (55% for SC/ST/PwBD). Fractions are ignored, so 59.99% does not count as 60%.
  • Local language test at document verification, unless your Class 10 or 12 marksheet shows you studied that state's language.
  • Medical fitness and document checks come last. Any mismatch with what you filled in gets you disqualified.

Who cannot apply

  • Anyone who has already done, or is doing, an apprenticeship under the Act, with Canara or anywhere else.
  • Anyone with one year or more of job or training experience after graduating.
  • Ex-servicemen. The notice says they cannot be engaged as apprentices.

What to do now

First create, or complete to 100%, your profile on the government apprenticeship portal nats.education.gov.in. Incomplete profiles are not eligible. Then apply through the Careers section of canarabank.bank.in before 17 October. Keep in mind that an apprenticeship is training, not a job: apprentices are not bank employees, and the 12 months give you a certificate and branch experience, not a confirmed post.
