RRB Group D 2026: notification status, result, eligibility, age limit, salary and PET
No new RRB Group D notice for 2026 yet. The live CEN 08/2024 has 32,438 posts, the PET result is out, and document verification starts from 2 November 2026. Eligibility, age, fee, pattern, PET and pay.

"RRB Group D" is the popular name for the Level 1 posts of the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), such as Track Maintainer and Pointsman. This guide uses only the RRBs' and Railway Recruitment Cells' (RRCs) own notices, read on 21 October 2026.
Key takeaways
- No 2026 Level 1 notice yet. CEN 01/2026 to 07/2026 are ALP, Technician, Section Controller, JE and DMS, Paramedical and NTPC.
- Current cycle: CEN 08/2024, 32,438 posts, notified 22 January 2025.

RRB Group D 2026 notification: has it been announced?
No. On 21 October 2026 the RRB website's 2026 list has seven notices: CEN 01/2026 (Assistant Loco Pilot), 02/2026 (Technicians), 03/2026 (Section Controller), 04/2026 (JE and DMS), 05/2026 (Paramedical) and 06/2026 and 07/2026 (NTPC Graduate and Under Graduate, covered in our RRB NTPC 2026 guide). None is a Level 1 notice. The railways have not published the date or vacancy count of the next Group D recruitment, so treat any "Group D 2026 notification date" as a guess.
RRB Group D latest status: CEN 08/2024 dates

| Detailed CEN published | 22 January 2025 |
| Application window | 23 January 2025 to 22 February 2025 (fee until 24 February 2025) |
| Correction window | 25 February 2025 to 6 March 2025, ₹250 per modification |

| Document verification and medical | From 2 November 2026 at Northern Railway; tentatively the last week of October 2026 at Western Railway |
The CBT result of 1 July 2026 is the answer to the most searched question, RRB Group D result. It was published on each RRB's website as a roll number list for PET, with a normalised score card link. The score card link was live from 1 July 2026 until 16 July 2026 at 11:55 pm. If you were not shortlisted, the score card is no longer open, so check your RRB's page for the cut-off notice.
PET, document verification, medical examination and the final panel are run by the Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs) of each zonal railway, not by the RRBs. That is why the latest news sits on RRC sites:
- Western Railway (RRC/WR): a notice dated 9 October 2026 says 9,837 candidates were shortlisted for PET, PET was held at Railway Ground, Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh from 1 to 9 September 2026 and on 28 September 2026, and document verification and medical examination are "tentatively scheduled to be conducted from last week of October 2026". The e-call letter link goes live at least one week before the first date.
- Northern Railway (RRC/NR): Notice 7 of 20 October 2026 says document verification and medical examination begin from 2 November 2026 for 4,749 shortlisted candidates, with a supplementary block date of 3 December 2026 for those who miss their slot.
No RRB or RRC has announced a final panel (empanelment) date for CEN 08/2024 as of 21 October 2026.
RRB Group D result and cut-off: how shortlisting works
The CEN says shortlisting for PET is done railway-wise at three times the vacancies, on CBT merit, with normalised marks where the test ran in several shifts. Document verification and medical examination are then called at 1:1 with the vacancies, on CBT merit and PET qualification.
The minimum qualifying marks in the CBT are 40% for UR and EWS, and 30% for OBC (non-creamy layer), SC and ST.
Cut-offs differ by RRB. Two examples from official notices:
- PET cut-off, RRB Chandigarh (1 July 2026), normalised marks: UR 72.21081, SC 65.85513, ST 60.69532, OBC 70.29683, EWS 66.68571. Read it in the RRB cut-off notice.
- Document verification cut-off, RRC Northern Railway (20 October 2026), general candidates: UR 75.83228, OBC 73.39229, SC 69.12685, ST 64.98915, EWS 71.22018. Course Completed Act Apprentices are shortlisted on two thirds of normalised CBT marks plus one third of NCVT marks.
Your own cut-off depends on the railway and category you applied under. Check the RRB or RRC you chose, not a national figure.
RRB Group D posts: Track Maintainer, Pointsman and more
CEN 08/2024 notified 14 posts in Level 1: Track Maintainer Grade IV, Pointsman B (Traffic) and 12 assistant posts (S and T, Workshop, Bridge, Carriage and Wagon, Loco Shed Diesel and Electrical, Operations Electrical, P.Way, TL and AC, TL and AC Workshop, Track Machine and TRD).
In the vacancy table for Western Railway, which covers Gujarat, the total is 4,672 vacancies, of which 2,164 are Track Maintainer Grade IV and 506 are Pointsman B. The CEN says vacancies can rise, fall or become nil depending on railway needs.
You could apply to only one railway and one application. Applying to more than one led to rejection of all applications and debarment, and the chosen railway could not be changed.
RRB Group D eligibility, age limit and relaxations
Nationality: Indian citizen, or the other categories in para 4 of the CEN (Nepal, Bhutan and others) with a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.
Education: Class 10 pass, or ITI, or equivalent, or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT, held by the closing date of 22 February 2025. People awaiting results should not have applied. An engineering diploma or degree was not accepted in place of ITI or NAC.
Age (as on 1 January 2025):
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Normal age range | 18 to 33 years |
| Range in CEN 08/2024 | 18 to 36 years (one-time 3 year relaxation granted for the Covid period) |
| Born between | 2 January 1989 and 1 January 2007 (UR and EWS) |
| OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years more |
| SC and ST | 5 years more |
| PwBD | 10 years (UR and EWS), 13 years (OBC), 15 years (SC and ST) |
| Ex-servicemen (6 months or more of service) | 3, 6 or 8 years after deducting service (UR and EWS, OBC, SC and ST) |
If you qualify for more than one relaxation you get the highest one, not the total. The date of birth must match your Class 10 certificate.

RRB Group D fee and refund rule
| Category | Fee | Refund after attending the CBT |
|---|---|---|
| All other candidates | ₹500 | ₹400, after bank charges |
| PwBD, women, transgender, ex-servicemen, SC, ST, minority communities, EBC | ₹250 | Full ₹250, after bank charges |
Modification of an application cost ₹250 each time and was not refundable. Fees are not refunded for erroneous, incomplete or rejected applications.
Failed refunds (notices of 16 and 28 September 2026): the RRBs said refunds for candidates who attended the CBT in CEN 2024 and 2025 (except CEN 09/2025) are complete. Candidates whose refund failed because of wrong bank details were given a final window to correct bank and Aadhaar-seeded account details on rrbapply.gov.in, from 16 September 2026 to 3 October 2026 at 11:55 pm (first set to 28 September 2026, then extended). That window has closed, and the RRBs say no further correspondence on the refund will be entertained. See the 16 September notice and the 28 September extension.
RRB Group D exam pattern, syllabus and negative marking
The CEN describes a single stage CBT, though the railways reserved the right to hold more than one stage.
| Section | Questions |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | 25 |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 30 |
| General Science | 25 |
| General Awareness and Current Affairs | 20 |
| Total | 100 questions, 1 mark each, 90 minutes |
PwBD candidates with a scribe get 120 minutes. The CEN says the section split is only indicative. Negative marking is one third of a mark for each wrong answer. Marks are normalised across shifts, and the RRBs published their normalisation formula in a notice of 9 February 2026.
Syllabus as listed in the CEN: Mathematics (number system, percentages, ratio, mensuration, time and work, interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics), Reasoning (analogies, series, coding, syllogism, Venn diagrams, data interpretation, directions), General Science (Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at Class 10 CBSE level) and General Awareness (current affairs in science, sports, culture, economics, politics). The CEN says the topics are illustrative, not exhaustive.
RRB Group D PET standards
PET is qualifying, and it has two parts. The weight test comes first. Failing it ends your PET.
| Test | Men | Women (and transgender candidates) |
|---|---|---|
| Lift and carry weight over 100 metres, in 2 minutes, one chance, without putting it down | 35 kg | 20 kg |
| Run 1000 metres in one chance | 4 minutes 15 seconds | 5 minutes 40 seconds |
PwBD candidates, ex-servicemen and Course Completed Act Apprentices are exempt from PET. Female candidates give a pregnancy self-declaration at PET, and a confirmed pregnancy makes her temporarily unfit, with the vacancy kept reserved until she can be re-tested six weeks after confinement.

RRB Group D medical standards
Candidates called for document verification must pass the railway medical test for the post. The CEN groups posts by medical standard:
- A-2: Pointsman B. Distant vision 6/9 without glasses, plus colour, binocular, night and mesopic vision tests.
- A-3: Assistant Track Machine. Distant vision 6/9 with or without glasses (lens power up to 2D).
- B-1: Track Maintainer Grade IV and most S and T, bridge, carriage and wagon, loco shed, P.Way, TRD and TL and AC posts. Distant vision 6/9 and 6/12, glasses allowed (up to 4D).
- C-1: Workshop, production unit and some TL and AC posts. Distant vision 6/12 and 6/18.
Lasik surgery makes you ineligible for A-2 and A-3 posts. For B-1 and C-1 posts it is allowed only if the surgery is at least a year old, with a specialist certificate and corneal thickness of at least 425 microns. An unfit candidate gets no alternative post.
RRB Group D salary: Level 1 pay
The CEN states an initial pay of ₹18,000 for all posts in Level 1 of the 7th CPC pay matrix. It gives no in-hand figure or allowance breakup, and we have not guessed one. Allowances depend on the posting city and current rules.
How to apply for RRB Group D (when the next notice comes)
For CEN 08/2024 the steps were:
- Read the detailed CEN and check the post parameters and the vacancy table for one railway of your choice.
- Create an account on the RRB application portal rrbapply.gov.in with your own mobile number and email. These cannot be changed later.
- Verify your Aadhaar, which the CEN recommends.
- Fill in the application, choose your posts, and upload a recent colour photograph (50 to 100 KB, JPEG) and your signature.
- Pay the fee online by internet banking, card or UPI, and give your bank details for the refund.
- Submit, and use the correction window if you need to change anything other than the account details and chosen railway.
The RRBs warn that they never appoint agents or coaching centres, so ignore anyone who promises a job.
