ISRO recruitment 2026: Scientist SC, technician and apprentice notices, last date, salary, eligibility

ISRO recruitment 2026 on 22 October: ICRB Scientist/Engineer SC notices closed, IPRC closes 24 October, SDSC SHAR closes 9 November. Pay Level 10, age, fee and selection.

ISRO has no open ICRB Scientist/Engineer notice on 22 October 2026, but IPRC and SDSC SHAR are taking applications.

ISRO does not hire through one yearly exam. It publishes separate notices, some from the central board (ICRB) and many from individual centres such as URSC, VSSC, SDSC SHAR, SAC and LPSC. That is why the same question, "is ISRO recruitment open?", can have three different answers on one day. This guide is built only from ISRO's own pages and advertisements, read on 22 October 2026. Start from the official Careers page and its Current Opportunities list.

Key takeaways

  • ICRB Scientist/Engineer 'SC': no notice is open. Notice 02 (GATE score) closed on 17 August 2026. Notice 03 (written test) closed on 16 September 2026, and its test is now on 29 October 2026.
  • Open now: IPRC Mahendragiri (until 24 October 2026, 5 pm) and SDSC SHAR Sriharikota (until 9 November 2026).
  • Salary: Scientist/Engineer 'SC' starts at ₹56,100 basic (Level 10); Technical Assistant at ₹44,900 (Level 7); Technician 'B' at ₹21,700 (Level 3).
  • Age: 28 years for ICRB Scientist/Engineer 'SC' posts; 18 to 35 for most technician and technical assistant posts at SDSC SHAR and IPRC.
  • Apprentices: the 2026-27 apprentice notices at URSC and ISTRAC have closed. Apprentices are trainees, not ISRO employees.
  • Fraud: every ISRO advertisement warns candidates to ignore fake job offers. Apply only through links on isro.gov.in or the centre's own site.

ISRO Scientist/Engineer 'SC' recruitment (ICRB) 2026

This is the entry most B.Tech graduates mean when they search "ISRO scientist recruitment". ICRB ran two Scientist/Engineer 'SC' routes in 2026.

Route 1, GATE score (ISRO:ICRB:02(EMC-CEPO):2026). Applications ran from 28 July to 17 August 2026, with the fee payable until 19 August 2026. The notice covers Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Science, Civil, Electrical, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, and Architecture. Candidates are screened for interview on a valid GATE 2025 or GATE 2026 score, in the ratio 1:7, and the final panel gives 50% weight to GATE score and 50% to the interview. The age limit was 28 years as on 17 August 2026. ISRO has already posted the lists of candidates screened in for interview, and a GATE score cut-off sheet, on the notice page. If you did not apply, this route is over for 2026.

Route 2, written test (ISRO:ICRB:03(EMC):2026). Applications ran from 27 August to 16 September 2026 for Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science. The advertisement lists 99 posts in Electronics, 52 in Mechanical and 21 in Computer Science, plus one each at PRL, and says the numbers are tentative. Eligibility is BE/B.Tech in the discipline with at least 65% marks (average of all semesters) or CGPA 6.84 out of 10. The age limit is 28 years as on 16 September 2026. The posting centres named include HSFC, IPRC, ISTRAC, LPSC, MCF Hassan, NRSC, SAC Ahmedabad, SDSC SHAR, URSC and VSSC.

The notice page now says the computer based test (CBT) is postponed to 29 October 2026 (Thursday), from 19 October 2026. Admit cards go only to the registered email address. Gujarat candidates note that Ahmedabad is one of the 37 test cities in the advertisement, but ISRO may change a venue.

These notices are the only ICRB Scientist/Engineer 'SC' notices in 2026 on the list. ISRO published three such notices in 2025, in April, May and June, so more can follow, but nothing is announced.

ISRO Scientist 'SC' salary and selection

The advertisements say selected candidates join as Scientist/Engineer 'SC' in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix with minimum basic pay of ₹56,100 a month, plus dearness allowance, house rent allowance and transport allowance. The posts come under the New Pension Scheme as written in the notice, and carry medical cover, subsidised canteen, Leave Travel Concession and a house building advance.

The written-test route has three stages:

  1. CBT of 100 marks: Part A is 80 questions on your discipline in 90 minutes (+1 for a right answer, minus one third for a wrong one); Part B is up to 20 aptitude questions in 30 minutes with no negative marking. Unreserved candidates need 50% in each part.
  2. Interview: the top candidates are shortlisted in the ratio 1:5, with at least 10 candidates. Technical knowledge carries 40 marks, discipline-related general awareness 20, presentation and communication 20, comprehension 10, with marks for academic record.
  3. Final panel: 50% weight to the CBT and 50% to the interview. An unreserved candidate needs 60% in the aggregate.

Interview travel is reimbursed as second-class train fare, and nothing is paid for attending the written test.

The fee for the written-test route was ₹250, but everyone first paid ₹750 as a processing fee. ₹500 came back to candidates who sat the CBT, and women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates got the full amount back.

ISRO technician and technical assistant recruitment 2026

Diploma and ITI holders have the most open notices right now, and they come from the centres, not from ICRB.

IPRC Mahendragiri (IPRC/RMT/2026/01). The posts are Technical Assistant, Technician 'B', Cook 'A' and Fireman 'A'. The notice page says the last date for online applications is revised to 24 October 2026 (up to 5 pm), and the fee can be paid until 29 October 2026 (5 pm), including by people who applied earlier and did not pay. The advertisement lists 22 vacancies in total. Pay is Level 7 (₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400) for Technical Assistant, Level 3 (₹21,700 to ₹69,100) for Technician 'B' and Level 2 (₹19,900 to ₹63,200) for the lower grades. The age limit is 18 to 35 years as on 5 October 2026. The fee is ₹750 for technical assistants and ₹500 for the other posts. See our report on the extension.

SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota (SDSC SHAR/RMT/03/2026). The advertisement is dated 19 October 2026 and applications close on 9 November 2026. It covers Technical Assistant (first class diploma), Scientific Assistant, Library Assistant 'A', Nurse 'B', Technician 'B' and Draughtsman 'B' (SSLC plus ITI in the trade), Fireman 'A' and drivers (Class 10 pass), and Multi-Tasking Staff. Pay runs from Level 7 (₹44,900) to Level 1 (₹18,000 to ₹56,900 for MTS). Age is 18 to 35 as on 9 November 2026 for most posts and 18 to 25 for two of them, with 5 years of relaxation for SC/ST and 3 for OBC. Selection is a written CBT, then a skill test for several posts. The skill test is only qualifying, so the final rank comes from the written test. Examination cities include Ahmedabad. Read our news report and the notice page.

Our diploma courses after Class 10 guide explains which diplomas lead to these technical assistant posts.

ISRO apprentice 2026

Apprentices train for one year under the Apprentices Act and are not ISRO employees. In 2026, URSC Bengaluru invited graduate (B.E./B.Tech), diploma and commercial practice apprentices for 2026-27 in notice URSC:03:2026, from 29 July to 28 August 2026. The advertisement lists a monthly stipend of ₹12,300 for graduate apprentices and asks candidates to register on the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in) and then apply on UMANG. ISTRAC Bengaluru also invited apprentices from 22 June to 31 July 2026. Both are closed on 22 October 2026. Look for the next batch on the same Current Opportunities page.

Gujarat: SAC Ahmedabad and where else to look

SAC in Ahmedabad has no open notice on 22 October 2026. Its January notice for Scientist/Engineer 'SD' and 'SC' (SAC:01/2026) closed on 12 February 2026. A September notice for junior research fellows, research associates and a project scientist closed on 30 September 2026, and applications went through careers.sac.gov.in. PRL Ahmedabad's officer posts closed on 24 August 2026.

If you are in Gujarat and want a government job now, our GSSSB recruitment guide covers state boards. For ISRO's engineering route, a good GATE score helps: see the GATE 2027 guide.

DRDO recruitment: one pointer

DRDO hires scientists through its Recruitment and Assessment Centre. On 22 October 2026 the RAC site listed advertisement 157, lateral recruitment of scientists, with a closing date of 19 June 2026 and an extended form submission date of 30 June 2026, so it is closed. Check the same site for the next notice.
