  • Processing fee: ₹750 for post codes 07 to 15 and ₹500 for codes 16 to 30. If you sit the written test, women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen get the full amount back; others get ₹500 or ₹400 back respectively.

How selection works

  • Technical, Scientific and Library Assistant, Technician, Draughtsman: a written test of 80 MCQs in 90 minutes, minus 0.33 for a wrong answer, then a qualifying skill test. Rank depends on the written score.
  • Nurse: 80 MCQs in 120 minutes, then a qualifying skill test.
  • Fireman: written test, physical efficiency test and detailed medical. You must upload a preliminary medical certificate in the set format with the application.
  • Drivers: written test of 100 questions in 120 minutes on the Motor Vehicles Act, English, arithmetic and general knowledge, then a driving skill test where everyone needs 60%.
  • MTS: a written test only, 100 questions in 90 minutes.

The written test is computer based in 18 cities, including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi and Kolkata.

What to do now

  1. Download the full advertisement from the ISRO careers page and check your post code’s exact qualification. The Technical Assistant and Technician posts need a first-class diploma or an NCVT trade, not just any certificate.
  2. Register on apps.shar.gov.in before 9 November, pay online, and fill in your bank details correctly for the refund.
  3. For Fireman, get the medical certificate from a government doctor of Assistant Civil Surgeon rank or above before you apply.
  4. Pick Ahmedabad as your exam city if you are in Gujarat, and keep your diploma, ITI and Class 10 originals ready for the skill test.

Another ISRO centre, the propulsion complex, has also extended its own technician form; that story is here.
