RRB Technician Grade III vacancies rise from 6,234 to 7,002: 768 more Fitter, C&W and Welder posts in 11 RRBs. Answer-key objections close 22 October
The Railway Recruitment Boards have added 768 Technician Grade III posts under CEN 02/2026, after zonal railways asked for more Fitter (open line), Carriage and Wagon and Welder (open line) staff. The CBT is already over; candidates can still check the answer key and object until 11:55 pm on 22 October.

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have raised the number of Technician Grade III vacancies under CEN 02/2026 from 6,234 to 7,002. Corrigendum No. 1, dated 16 October 2026, says some zonal railways sent in extra demand for three trades after the notice came out on 30 June. The 323 Technician Grade I (Signal) posts are unchanged, so the recruitment now covers 7,325 posts in all.

Which trades gain
| Trade (category no.) | RRBs affected | Before | After |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fitter, open line (12) | Mumbai, Muzaffarpur, Kolkata, Gorakhpur, Siliguri, Secunderabad, Ranchi, Bengaluru | 317 | 840 |
| Carriage and Wagon (5) | Guwahati, Siliguri, Chandigarh, Secunderabad, Bilaspur | 192 | 427 |
| Welder, open line (15) | Mumbai | 11 | 21 |
| Total in the RRBs affected | 11 RRBs | 520 | 1,288 |
The "before" and "after" figures are the sums of the rows in the corrigendum for these RRBs only. The biggest single jump is Fitter (open line) at RRB Kolkata, from 34 to 184. Other RRBs, including RRB Ahmedabad, keep their original vacancies. The corrigendum says all other terms of CEN 02/2026 stay the same.
Why this matters if you sat the CBT
The computer-based tests for Technician Grade III were held from 6 to 9 October 2026, so no one can apply afresh. But vacancies are notified RRB by RRB and post by post, and you compete for the posts of the RRB you applied to, so more posts in your trade there means more people from your pool can be selected. If you applied for Fitter (open line), Carriage and Wagon or Welder (open line) at one of the 11 RRBs above, your chances have improved. The new vacancies are also split by community and by persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen; the corrigendum on your RRB's website shows the break-up for each row.
