KVS recruitment 2026: NVS vacancies, CTET rule, salary, exam pattern and status
No new KVS or NVS notification yet. The live drive has 14,967 posts, a CTET rule for PRT and TGT, pay Level 1 to 12 and Tier-II results out. Here is where it stands on 22 October 2026.

Many people search "KVS recruitment 2026" expecting a fresh form. There is none yet. What exists is a large 2025 drive in its last stages, and this guide explains it. Every fact comes from CBSE's recruitment page and the notices on it, read on 22 October 2026. The official sites to watch are cbse.gov.in, kvsangathan.nic.in and navodaya.gov.in.
Key takeaways
- No 2026 notification: the CBSE recruitment page and the KVS home page, both checked on 22 October 2026, show no new teacher recruitment notice.
- Who runs it: CBSE conducts the exams on behalf of KVS and NVS. Candidates apply once for both.
- Vacancies: 14,967 tentative posts, of which 7,971 teaching posts in KVS, 5,054 teaching posts in NVS and 1,942 non-teaching posts in both.
- CTET: Paper I for PRT, Paper II for TGT (except Music, Art, Work Experience, Library and Physical Education).
- Stage now: Tier-II results are out (last batch on 14 September 2026). Interview and skill test schedules are still to come.
- Next cycle: not notified.

Is there a KVS or NVS recruitment 2026 notification?
Not for new posts. On 22 October 2026, the CBSE recruitment page lists the 2025 KVS and NVS drive as its latest teacher recruitment. The notification is numbered 01/2025 and is titled "Recruitment of Various Teaching & Non-Teaching Posts in Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti". The KVS home page, last updated on 21 October 2026, shows only departmental notices, such as selection panels for in-house promotion exams.
The notification names only three websites as official: cbse.gov.in, kvsangathan.nic.in and navodaya.gov.in.
One caution on the NVS side. The navodaya.gov.in site loads its pages with JavaScript, and we could not read a recruitment document list on it. The NVS facts here come from the joint notices CBSE hosts for both bodies.
KVS NVS recruitment vacancies by post
The notification gives post-wise, subject-wise and category-wise tables. Adding them up:
| Group | KVS | NVS |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant Commissioner | 8 | 9 |
| Principal | 134 | 93 |
| Vice-Principal | 58 | not in this drive |
| PGT | 1,465 | 1,531 |
| TGT (including Librarian in KVS) | 2,941 | 3,421 |
| PRT (including Music and Special Educator) | 3,365 | not in this drive |
| Non-teaching | 1,155 | 787 |
| Total | 9,126 | 5,841 |
That makes 14,967 in all. Some highlights from the subject tables:
- KVS PGT: Physics 213, Chemistry 204, Computer Science 176, English 164.
- KVS TGT: Sanskrit 529, Special Educator 493, Mathematics 413, Social Studies 327, English 314, Science 177.

- NVS TGT: Computer Science 653, Special Educator 495, English 281, Mathematics 279.
- NVS TGT (Gujarati): 52 posts in the 3rd Language list, which matters for candidates from Gujarat.
Selected candidates "may be posted anywhere in India", and requests to change station or region are not entertained.

KVS NVS recruitment eligibility and the CTET rule
Each post has its own qualification. The broad pattern, from the notification:
- PGT: a master's degree in the subject with at least 50% marks plus a B.Ed. with at least 50% marks (or an integrated course). Upper age limit 40 years.
- TGT: a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks in the subject combination plus a B.Ed., or a four-year integrated degree. Upper age limit 35 years.
- PRT: Class 12 with at least 50% marks plus a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or a 4-year B.El.Ed. Upper age limit 30 years.
- Principal: a master's degree and B.Ed., each with 50% marks, plus required service in pay level 12, as Vice-Principal or as PGT. Age 35 to 50 years.
The CTET requirement. For PRT, the notification asks for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test, Paper I, conducted by CBSE. For TGT it asks for Paper II. Corrigendum I, dated 21 November 2025, removed the earlier wording that limited the Paper II rule to language TGTs, so it covers the TGT posts in general. The notification says a valid CTET certificate issued on or before the closing date is essential for PRT and TGT, except for Music, Art, Work Experience, Librarian and Physical Education. For PRT (Special Educator), CTET Paper I is also required, with up to 5% relaxation in qualifying marks for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates.
PGT, Principal and the non-teaching posts do not ask for CTET.
If you want to be ready for the next drive, the December CTET is the entry ticket. Our CTET December 2026 guide covers dates, eligibility and qualifying marks, and the CTET news item has the dates: 12 and 13 December 2026.
Age relaxation: 5 years for SC and ST, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), 10 years for women applying to PGT, TGT, Librarian and PRT posts, and more for PwBD candidates and serving employees.
KVS salary: pay level for each post
The notification quotes the pay matrix level for each post. These are pay-matrix bands, not take-home salary.
| Post | Pay level | Pay matrix range |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant Commissioner, Principal | Level 12 | ₹78,800 to ₹2,09,200 |
| Vice-Principal, Administrative Officer | Level 10 | ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500 |
| PGT | Level 8 | ₹47,600 to ₹1,51,100 |
| TGT, Finance Officer, Assistant Engineer | Level 7 | ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400 |
| PRT, Assistant Section Officer, Junior Translator | Level 6 | ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 |
| Senior Secretariat Assistant, Stenographer Grade II | Level 4 | ₹25,500 to ₹81,100 |
| Junior Secretariat Assistant | Level 2 | ₹19,900 to ₹63,200 |
| Lab Attendant, Multi Tasking Staff | Level 1 | ₹18,000 to ₹56,900 |
For NVS, selected candidates also draw admissible allowances and a 10% special allowance for residential duties (not for Assistant Commissioner, Academics). Navodaya schools are fully residential, so teachers stay on campus in rent-free accommodation where available.

KVS NVS recruitment exam pattern
The notification describes a two-tier exam, followed by an interview or skill test for some posts.
Tier-I is a qualifying OMR test of 2 hours with 100 questions and 300 marks:
| Part | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General Reasoning | 20 | 60 |
| Numeric Ability | 20 | 60 |
| Basic Computer Literacy | 20 | 60 |
| General Knowledge | 20 | 60 |
| Language Competency Test (English) | 10 | 30 |
| Language Competency Test (one other modern Indian language) | 10 | 30 |
Each question carries 3 marks, and one mark is cut for each wrong answer. Tier-I only shortlists candidates for Tier-II, in the ratio of 1:10 against the notified vacancies. Multi Tasking Staff in NVS has its own Tier-I paper.
Tier-II is the subject knowledge test of 2.5 hours: 60 objective questions (1 mark each, with 0.25 marks cut for a wrong answer) and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks, 100 marks in all. It is bilingual in Hindi and English, except PGT (Modern Indian Language) and TGT (3rd Language), which are in the language concerned.
After Tier-II:
- Interview (100 marks): for Assistant Commissioner, Principal, Vice-Principal, PGT, TGT, PRT, Librarian and several officer posts. Merit is 85% Tier-II and 15% interview, with shortlisting at 1:3.
- Skill test: for Stenographers and Junior Secretariat Assistants, who must qualify. Shortlisting is 1:5.
- Tier-II marks alone: Assistant Section Officer, Senior Secretariat Assistant, Lab Attendant and Multi Tasking Staff.
KVS NVS recruitment fee
Per post, the examination fee plus a ₹500 processing fee (GST extra):
| Post | Examination fee |
|---|---|
| Assistant Commissioner, Principal, Vice-Principal | ₹2,300 |
| PGT, TGT, PRT, Librarian, officer and translator posts | ₹1,500 |
| Secretariat Assistants, Stenographers, Lab Attendant, Multi Tasking Staff | ₹1,200 |
SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates pay no examination fee but still pay the ₹500 processing fee. A candidate applying for the same post in both KVS and NVS pays once.

Tier-II results arrived over 12 press releases. The first, on 17 August 2026, covered PGT and TGT Computer Science, Finance Officer and Stenographer Grade I. The twelfth, on 14 September 2026, covered Primary Teachers and Junior Secretariat Assistants. CBSE says marks sheets for posts with an interview will be released within 15 days of the final result, and interview and skill-test call letters will appear in each candidate's login once the schedule is fixed with KVS and NVS. Candidates who qualify for both organisations must also submit their preference through the portal.
What to do if you missed it
You cannot apply to the 2025 drive any more. The honest plan is to prepare for the next one:
- Hold or clear a CTET certificate. The next CTET is on 12 and 13 December 2026.
- Keep your degree and B.Ed. or D.El.Ed. marks above 50%, the common floor.
- Watch the CBSE recruitment page, kvsangathan.nic.in and navodaya.gov.in only.
- Look at other jobs meanwhile. For Gujarat state recruitment, see our GSSSB recruitment guide.
Related: Gujarat now has 49 Kendriya Vidyalayas (news), and the Navodaya lateral entry test covers the school side of NVS.
