The search "RBI Assistant 2026" is rising fast, but a lot of what you read online mixes up cycles. This guide uses only what RBI itself has put on rbi.org.in, as read on 22 October 2026. It also covers RBI's Grade B and Office Attendant recruitments, since students often search for all three together. Dates and numbers are from the advertisement dated 16 February 2026 unless said otherwise.

Key takeaways

  • Status on 22 October 2026: the Assistant, Panel Year 2025 cycle is in its final stage. Candidates shortlisted after the Main Examination now face the Language Proficiency Test (LPT), medical check and document verification.
  • No 2026 Assistant notice yet: RBI has not published a new Assistant advertisement. When it does, it will appear under Opportunities@RBI on rbi.org.in.
  • Ahmedabad: 20 vacancies in the 650 total (8 General, 6 OBC, 4 ST, 2 EWS, 0 SC), as notified on 16 February 2026.
  • Eligibility: graduate in any discipline with at least 50% marks, age 20 to 28 years on 1 February 2026, and proficiency in the local language.
  • Pattern: Preliminary (100 marks, 60 minutes), Main (200 marks, 135 minutes), then a qualifying LPT. Wrong answers lose one quarter of a mark.
  • Grade B: the 2026 cycle has already run to a final result for the General cadre. Office Attendant: the 2025 cycle (572 posts) is also with RBI for the LPT stage.

RBI Assistant 2026: is there a new notification?

No. On 22 October 2026 we found no Assistant advertisement for a new cycle among the recruitment notices on rbi.org.in. RBI names its cycles by "Panel Year", and the most recent Assistant notice is "Recruitment for the Post of Assistant, Panel Year 2025", dated 16 February 2026. That is the recruitment people are calling "RBI Assistant 2026", because the exams were held this year.

RBI also says that any corrigendum on an advertisement is published only on its website. All new notices, the application link and call letters go up on Opportunities@RBI, so that is the only page to trust. RBI warns on its site about fake appointment letters from look-alike web addresses.

Three things changed the schedule. The corrigendum extended the last date because candidates "faced difficulties in completing the online application process due to technical reasons". The preliminary exam planned for 11 and 13 April 2026 was not held at Imphal and Kakching because of a curfew, and RBI moved those candidates to 30 April 2026. The advertisement itself carried the Main Examination date only as "tentative", so use RBI's call letter for any exact date.

RBI Assistant vacancy 2026: how many posts, and Ahmedabad

The advertisement lists 650 vacancies across 17 recruiting offices. RBI says it can increase or decrease the number, or leave posts unfilled. The biggest offices are Mumbai (249), Chennai (53), Kanpur and Lucknow (50) and New Delhi (49).

Ahmedabad has 20 posts, which also serve Gujarat applicants. The split is below.

CategoryAhmedabad posts
SC0
ST4
OBC6
EWS2
General / Unreserved8
Total20

Within these 20, the notice also marks posts for persons with benchmark disabilities and for ex-servicemen (2 in the normal ex-servicemen group). Those are horizontal slots counted inside the 20, not extra posts, so do not add them on.

The same notice lists West Zone as Ahmedabad, Bhopal (with Raipur), Mumbai (with Belapur, Pune and Panaji) and Nagpur. Selected candidates are first posted in the office zone they applied for, but RBI says they can be transferred between zones for administrative reasons.

You can apply to one office only, and your online test centre must be in the same state group. RBI's own example is that a candidate applying to the Ahmedabad office can choose a centre only from Gujarat. RBI also reserves the right to give you a centre outside that state.

RBI Assistant eligibility

Nationality. An Indian citizen, or one of the other groups listed in the advertisement (subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, certain Tibetan refugees and persons of Indian origin who have migrated from listed countries, with a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India).

Age (on 1 February 2026). Between 20 and 28 years, which meant being born between 2 February 1998 and 1 February 2006, both days included. The upper limit is relaxed to 33 years for SC and ST, 31 years for OBC, and further for persons with benchmark disabilities, ex-servicemen, and widows, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried. Relaxations are not cumulative.

Education (on 1 February 2026). At least a bachelor's degree in any discipline with 50% marks in aggregate (pass class for SC, ST and PwBD candidates), and knowledge of word processing on a PC. If your university gives only a CGPA on a 10-point scale and does not define a conversion, RBI treats 5.75 as 50%, 6.25 as 55% and 6.75 as 60%. A fraction is ignored, so 49.99% counts as less than 50%.

Language. You must be able to read, write, speak and understand the language of the state, or any state, under the recruiting office you pick. For Ahmedabad that means the language of Gujarat. Check the language list in Appendix-I of the advertisement for the exact entry.

RBI Assistant exam pattern 2026

Selection has three stages: a Preliminary Examination, a Main Examination, and a Language Proficiency Test. Both online tests are objective and multiple choice.

StageTestsQuestionsMarksTime

MainReasoning 40, English 40, Numerical Ability 40, General Awareness 40, Computer Knowledge 40200200135 minutes

Rules that matter:

  • You must qualify in each part of the objective tests separately, and in the Preliminary to sit the Main.
  • One quarter (1/4) of the marks is deducted for each wrong answer in both tests.
  • RBI shortlists about 10 times the vacancies from the Preliminary, about 2 times the vacancies from the Main for the LPT, ranked on aggregate marks.
  • The LPT is mandatory with no exemption. A candidate who is not proficient in the local language is disqualified.
  • Final selection is on the online examination in order of merit, qualifying the LPT, medical fitness and certificate verification. The Main marks decide the merit, not the Preliminary.
  • Mobile phones and calculators are banned inside the exam premises.

The online tests except English are available in English, Hindi and certain other languages listed in Appendix-II. Both marksheets and the Preliminary cut-off table are on RBI's marksheet page.

  • Gross: about ₹58,514 a month at present, without house rent allowance.
  • HRA: 15% of pay if you do not live in the Bank's accommodation.
  • Other benefits: Bank accommodation subject to availability, medical reimbursement, dispensary and annual health check-up, interest-free festival advance, leave fare concession, and housing and personal loans at concessional rates after the minimum service. New recruits come under the Defined Contribution New Pension Scheme plus gratuity.

Fees, application and the stage now

Fees were non-refundable and paid online: ₹450 plus 18% GST for General, OBC and EWS applicants, and ₹50 plus 18% GST (intimation charges only) for SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen. RBI staff paid nothing.

RBI has published a notice, "Display of Roll Numbers of Provisionally Shortlisted Candidates", for those who cleared the Main Examination. It says the list is provisional, depends on the candidate clearing the LPT, being found medically fit and submitting acceptable documents, and that the LPT is "of qualifying nature". Shortlisted candidates must bring six copies of the attestation form and two copies of the biodata form, along with category certificates, as listed on the RBI notice.

If your roll number is not on that list, this cycle is over for you. Use the months before the next advertisement to prepare, and note that bank clerical and officer exams are on now. See our guides to IBPS Clerk 2026 and SBI PO 2026.
