JEE Advanced 2027: exam date, organising IIT, eligibility, attempts, syllabus and cutoff from JEE Main

JEE Advanced 2027 date and organising IIT are not announced yet. What jeeadv.ac.in shows on 22 October 2026: 2026 rules, two attempts, 75% rule, pattern and JEE Main session 1 on 22 January.

JEE Advanced 2027 has no official date yet; JEE Main session 1 is planned from 22 January 2027.

JEE Advanced searches are up sharply this year, and much of what circulates is guesswork. For students in Gujarat and elsewhere, the 2026 exam was held at 692 centres across 230 Indian cities. This guide separates what the exam body has actually published from what it has not. Everything below was read on 22 October 2026 on jeeadv.ac.in, the 2026 Information Brochure, the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) reports and NTA's own examination calendar.

Key takeaways

  • JEE Advanced 2027 date: not announced on 22 October 2026. No 2027 notice is on jeeadv.ac.in.
  • Organising IIT for 2027: not named. IIT Kanpur ran the 2025 exam and IIT Roorkee ran 2026.
  • Last cycle: exam on 17 May 2026, results on 1 June 2026, registration 23 April to 2 May 2026.
  • Gate exam: JEE Main 2027 session 1 is planned for 22 to 24 and 28 to 30 January 2027, with 31 January 2027 as a buffer day. NTA calls the dates tentative.
  • Attempts: a maximum of two, in two consecutive years.
  • Pattern in 2026: two compulsory papers, three hours each, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, computer-based, English and Hindi.

JEE Advanced 2027 exam date

There is no official JEE Advanced 2027 exam date yet. The home page of jeeadv.ac.in is still headed "JEE (Advanced) 2026". Its latest announcement is the JoSAA Round 5 notice posted on 16 July 2026. The Important Dates page lists only 2026 activities and says "Last Updated: December 28, 2025". That means the 2026 schedule was put up about five months before the exam, so a 2027 schedule is likely to appear well after now.

The JEE Advanced 2026 schedule is the best guide to the shape of the year:

Activity (2026 cycle)Official date
JEE Advanced 2026 date press release13 March 2026
Registration for JEE Main qualified candidates23 April 2026, 10:00 to 2 May 2026, 23:59
Last date for fee payment4 May 2026
Admit card11 May 2026 to 17 May 2026, 14:30
Exam, Paper 1 and Paper 217 May 2026 (Sunday)
Provisional answer key25 May 2026
Final answer key and result1 June 2026
Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT)4 June 2026

Treat this as last year's pattern, not a promise. The Information Brochure also says the date does not move even if it is declared a public holiday, so once it is announced, plan around it.

JEE Advanced 2027 organising IIT

The organising institute rotates between the IITs. The 2025 Joint Implementation Committee report names IIT Kanpur as the organising institute, and the 2026 brochure and report name IIT Roorkee, with Prof. Suraj Prakash Harsha as Organizing Chairperson. Neither the website nor the brochure says which IIT will run 2027. The brochure says the Joint Admission Board (JAB) decisions are final on all matters of the exam and IIT admission for that academic year. No 2027 JAB announcement was on the site on 22 October 2026.

JEE Main 2027: the gate to JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced is not open to everyone. You must first be among the top 2,50,000 candidates in the B.E./B.Tech. paper (Paper 1) of JEE Main. That makes the JEE Main calendar the first real date for 2027 aspirants.

NTA's Examination Calendar (December 2026 cycle onwards) lists JEE (Main) Session 1 (January) on 22 to 24 and 28 to 30 January 2027, six days, with 31 January 2027 as the buffer day. A note on the calendar says dates are tentative. The JEE Main home page carries no 2027 bulletin or form yet. For the full JEE Main picture, see our JEE Main 2027 guide and the news story on the session 1 calendar.

JEE Advanced eligibility 2027

The 2027 criteria are not published. The 2026 criteria on the eligibility page were five conditions, all of which had to be met at once:

  1. JEE Main performance: be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1. The split was 10% GEN-EWS, 27% OBC-NCL, 15% SC, 7.5% ST and 40.5% OPEN, with 5% horizontal reservation for PwD in each.
  2. Age: born on or after 1 October 2001, with five years' relaxation for SC, ST and PwD (born on or after 1 October 1996).
  3. Attempts: a maximum of two, in two consecutive years.
  4. Class 12: appeared for Class 12 (or equivalent) for the first time in 2025 or 2026, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Those who first appeared in 2024 or earlier were not eligible, apart from boards that declared 2023-24 results on or after 18 June 2024.
  5. Earlier IIT admission: not admitted to any IIT programme listed in the JoSAA business rules before. Someone who was allotted an IIT seat but never reported, or withdrew before the last round, could still appear.

The pattern is a two-year window tied to the year you first appeared in Class 12. If the 2027 brochure keeps that design, the window would move one year forward to Class 12 batches of 2026 and 2027. That is our reading of the pattern, not an official statement. The brochure itself offers one 2027 clue: candidates admitted to an IIT preparatory course in 2026 may appear in JEE Advanced 2027, subject to the other criteria.

I could not find any official statement on the site about a gap or change in 2027 eligibility, so we do not repeat claims that have no official source. Read the 2027 brochure when it is out.

JEE Advanced attempts and age limit

Two attempts in two consecutive years is the rule in the 2026 criteria. The official FAQ shows how it plays out. A candidate who qualified for JEE Advanced 2025 through JEE Main but did not sit both papers must still qualify through JEE Main 2026 to be eligible again. The FAQ page also answers cases such as Class 12 in 2024 with late board results, NIT admission (allowed) and a reported IIT seat (not allowed).

Age rule for 2026: born on or after 1 October 2001, or on or after 1 October 1996 for SC, ST and PwD. For 2027 the cut-off year will be set again in the brochure.

The 75% Class 12 rule for IIT admission

Sitting JEE Advanced and getting an IIT seat are two different checks. The Admission Criteria page says that to be admitted to an IIT, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics compulsory in Class 12, you must meet one of two conditions:

  • At least 75% aggregate in a minimum of five subjects (65% for SC, ST and PwD), or
  • Be in your board's top 20 percentile of successful candidates, category-wise.

The marks of five subjects are counted: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language and the best of your other subjects. The marksheet must come from one board. Candidates who appeared for Class 12 in 2025 and reappeared in all subjects in 2026 get the better of the two results counted. This rule is checked at the time of seat acceptance, so a strong rank does not rescue a missed percentage.

JEE Advanced paper pattern and syllabus

The pattern for 2026, from the Information Brochure:

  • Two papers, Paper 1 (09:00 to 12:00) and Paper 2 (14:30 to 17:30), three hours each.
  • Both papers are compulsory. If you miss one, your result is neither prepared nor declared.
  • Three sections in each paper: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
  • Computer-based test, in English and Hindi, and you can switch language during the exam.
  • Negative marks may apply to some questions. The details are given only in the instructions on exam day.

The 2026 syllabus is in Annexure I of the brochure and a separate PDF. No 2027 syllabus is published. Until it is, the 2026 syllabus is the only official reference.

JEE Advanced cutoff and the JEE Main cutoff to qualify

There are two different cut-offs, and people often mix them up.

1. The JEE Main cut-off to sit JEE Advanced. There is no fixed percentile. The rule is a count: the top 2,50,000 in the B.E./B.Tech. paper, shared across categories. In 2026, because of ties, a total of 2,50,174 candidates were declared eligible, besides 394 foreign nationals and 2,058 OCI/PIO candidates. The percentile that corresponds to this changes with each year's JEE Main marks, so it will be known only after JEE Main 2027 results.

2. The JEE Advanced cut-off to qualify. In 2026, the qualifying aggregate cut-offs were 25.56% for the common rank list, 22.78% for GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL, 12.78% for SC, ST and PwD and 6.39% for preparatory candidates. Subject-wise minimums were 7.30%, 6.51%, 3.65% and 1.83%. The JIC report says the criteria were relaxed so that at least twice as many candidates qualified as there were seats in each category.

In all, 1,87,389 candidates registered, 1,79,694 appeared in both papers, 56,880 qualified and 18,861 IIT seats were allotted in the final round. For the detail on women's results and seat allotment, see our news story on the JEE Advanced 2026 report.

What to do now if you are targeting JEE Advanced 2027

  • Watch two sites: jeemain.nta.nic.in for the session 1 bulletin and form, and jeeadv.ac.in for the 2027 brochure and dates.
  • Plan around 22 January 2027 for JEE Main session 1, while treating it as tentative.
  • Protect your Class 12 marks. The 75% (or 65%) rule or the top 20 percentile applies to your 2026-27 board result, whatever your rank.
  • Keep documents ready: Class 10 certificate for date of birth, category certificate and a valid ID.
  • Ignore unofficial dates from coaching or video channels. Only jeeadv.ac.in counts.

If you are also weighing medicine, the NEET route has its own calendar: see our NEET UG 2027 guide.
