The placements of IIT-Kharagpur are pretty good. I must say that the IITs are the finest technical institutions of the country. The placements are nearly 80% for the mining engineering department. The highest packages can go upto 30 lakhs offered by Schlumberger and the average package is around 10 lakhs offered by Tata Steel, Coal India, and Vedanta. In the mining sector, the roles offered are generally field manager or general manager. About 10 students got the internship from the batch of 80 students in various fields of finance, analytics, programming and consulting. The stipend varies from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 monthly depending upon the firm. | According to me, the infrastructure of IIT-KGP is the best among all other IITs. It is the oldest and the largest among all IITs structured in a large area of 2100 acres. The whole campus has a high speed Wi-Fi connectivity which is available 24x7. Every student is accommodated in one of the 22 halls, and each hall has high standards of sanitation and cleanliness. Labs are excellent with sufficient infrastructure. The library is also excellent, and it has many sections like discussion rooms, computer labs for practicing coding, air-conditioned rooms and non-air-conditioned rooms. I suggest you better to choose south Indian IITs if you don't know Hindi or you always want spicy food. | Teachers are very good at giving projects and doing research works. However, they are lazy at teaching. They only rotate slides and do not cover every student. We should take care of our own studies. IITs are always the best and are preparing students to be industry-ready in an effective way. | IITs are always best. I suggest not to choose north IITs if you don't know Hindi or eat spicy food. | Spring fest is a famous fest of our college, but I did not enjoy it much.

Placements in IITs are unique. A number of companies swarm during December to look for the best talent and recruit them. Selection rounds are rigorous. However, the seniors, batchmates, and alumnus help you throughout the process. Most of our batchmates were placed in well-reputed firms ranging from government companies like Coal India to investment banking firms like Goldman Sachs. Internship opportunities offered were less compared to placement opportunities. However, they were still one of the best in the country. | The infrastructure of IIT Kharagpur is the top class. We have world-class swimming pools, football, hockey, tennis, badminton, and cricket grounds. The internet connection provided is the best part with an infinite download limit and mind-boggling speed since we have a direct line of high-speed optic fibre. We have many classrooms and labs. Labs have the most sophisticated instruments required to conduct all the experiments. Food served in the mess is poor. However, it is better than before. Canteens are a lifeline if you want to survive in Kharagpur. Aseems was my favourite food stall as it has amazing Hariya Sandwich, Bhatu Maggi and world-famous Shikanji. | Teachers in the college are the best trained, best qualified and have industry experience. They help you in classrooms and beyond that as well. They can help you select projects, get funding for projects, and also get access to the world-class labs. Discontinued (Jun-2025) M.Sc. in Mathematics and Computing
I am a student of M.Sc. . Mathematics at IIT Kharagpur (batch of 2025). Generally, placements in the mathematics department are very good because M.Tech in CSDP is also included in the mathematics department. But 90 percent of M.Sc. students in mathematics who opt for placements get placed in various EdTechs or IT sectors, depending on there interest. In Edtechs Sri Chaitanya, Unacademy, Byju's, etc., students get placed there for around CTC 10–12 LPA. Some of the motivated students (including my seniors and batchmates) study data science, data analytics, and software development on their own and get placed at IBM, Google, TCS, Siemens, Amazon, and various HFTs for CTC 15, 20 LPA. But most of the placements in our department happen in the EdTech industry. Lastly, we have a mandatory 2-month summer internship program. Many of our seniors got internships in the IT sector, while others opted for academic internships. You can have a paid or unpaid internship, depending on the institute or company. | You can do anything on your mind, and you will get top-notch facilities here. Cricket, football, swimming, tennis, squash. It's basically a never-ending list, and the craze for GC (competition between hostels) is immense. Also, we have a tournament called SHAURYA, where various institutions from West Bengle participate, and IIT KGP hosts the tournament. Facilities are not limited to sports only; you can also join instrumental music, sing, dance, play or anything else and also participate in inter-IIT competitions. And you can also join various clubs in Gymkhana. In short, you name something and you will find that there are many restaurants on campus as well. In new hostels, you will get single rooms with centralized AC, washing machines on every floor, centralized toilets, and bathrooms that get cleaned every day. In old hostels, you won't have access to AC, and you also have to share rooms with one or two roommates (depending on your luck). The quality of food in canteens is good; some of the night canteens are very famous for there food (JC Bose, VS, RK, etc.). The taste of mess food is basically a lottery case; some days it's good and some days it's terrible. But they use quality products that's ensured by boarders who have to do there mess duties. And you will find many restaurants on campus. And you will get free medicine from Frank Cross Pharmacy with the prescription of BC Roy Hospital (inside campus) if you are ill. | Every teacher is highly qualified in IIT's and it reflects in there lectures. They are very helpful, and you can have discussions at any time with their convenience. They teach us what is helpful and relevant for our future (various exams or a PhD). You can not complain much about faculty members at any IIT (with a few exceptions, obviously). But exams are on the tougher side for every paper and the grading system for every teacher also varies. There are midterm and endterm examinations and you will not be given any study leave or gaps between exams. | A short review for upcoming M.Sc. students in IIT Kharagpur. | I was motivated to study mathematics; that's why I came here. You have access to one of Asia's biggest libraries and some of the best teachers in our country, that's for sure. Also, the campus life of IIT KGP is awesome; everyone knows about Springfest, the biggest fest in Southeast Asia and the biggest Techfest in India, where you can participate in various hackathons, robotics, AI competitions, etc. If you are an M.Sc. student, you can get an assistantship of 1000 INR per month, or you can apply for any state scholarship (Domicile of West Bengal) or central scholarship.

The college stands in the list of top 10 institutes of engineering in India. The placements are the best you would find. The placement drives happen for two days. A lot of companies visit the college together, and you have to multitask for sitting in different placement interviews of different companies. Once you get a job offer, you cannot sit in any other company. That is the only negative I found here. | The campus is huge with facilities for a lot of sporting activities. Hostels are average, and the rooms are double sharing and bearable. Labs have all the equipment needed. There are various other programs in the college, so different buildings are available for those programs within the campus. Some hostel rooms for executives have AC facilities. | The faculty are very good. None of them is bad. They all know their subjects and teach us very well. One needs to listen to the class and pay full attention. No need to study a lot on your own. The course curriculum is good. Weekly tests are conducted as well, so you need to be up to date. | It is an IIT, just take admission here.

Usually, 55-60 percent of students are placed in this course, as many consider pursuing higher studies such as M.Tech or Ph.D. more viable. The minimum salary stands at around 10 Lacs, while the maximum reaches approximately 40 Lacs, with an average of 15 Lacs. | The departmental building is newly constructed and equipped with all modern facilities. Labs are well-occupied. There is 24*7 Wi-Fi facility throughout the campus. The library remains open from 6 am to 9 pm on regular days, and during exam periods, it stays open 24 hours. Some hostels are old, but the majority are newly built and equipped with essential appliances. The quality of food in the mess is excellent. There is a BC hospital situated inside the campus that provides free healthcare services to all students and staff. | The teachers are qualified, friendly, and helpful. There were four exams in a semester: a mid-semester exam, an end-of-semester exam, and two class tests. The difficulty level is moderate for class tests, but the semester exams are on the tougher side. Additionally, the duration of the semester is relatively short, around 3.5 months. | Good facilities and infrastructure provides exposure to the outer world. | IIT KGP provides great exposure to the outer world through its fests and societies.

As it is government funded IIT and it is top ranked IIT in Asia. The number of placements are huge and most number of students are taking interested in pursuing their own startups. Some of them are placed in top it companies including google, Adobe, Amazon etc. There are long list of companies. | My favourite place is library. It has very large library with lot of books of every kind and every topic. Whole campus has Wi-Fi facility and medical staff is 24x7 available in campus. The campus is very big you cannot visit whole campus in a day with steps instead you need a bicycle or car. | The faculty members are extremely knowledgeable and talented. Most of them are experts in research fields and I like the research it is my passion. The labs are perfect having modern equipments needed for doing experiments. The course curriculum is perfectly designed I'm sure after four years you will be ready to take an initiative. | Perfect college for engineering .
B.Tech Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering
College Infrastructure: We have got some best design labs and everything in order perform research for PHD. Living places are clean and maintainance is too good. Food is hygienic but not tasty but there are lot of restaurants to provide for. | Academics: Yes, one of the most senior faculty are present in the campus. And many technical assistants are present to take care of the individuals. The curriculum includes all the courses necessary for a B.Tech course | Placements: This year, there were best placements among all IIT's with 5 students above 1 cr. And there were 100% placements. And those students were from various depts including cs, ec and mech and even agriculture. Average packages were above 50 lakhs for ec and around 50 for cs and mnc. | Value for Money: Were are asked to pay around 2.2 lakes per year. And it, acc. to me, is very reasonable for one of top engineering college, as it is very less when compared to the education and facilities provided to us. | Campus Life: This is the best life I am having right now. It is a biggest campus among all IIT'S and oldest.....and perhaps one of the biggest among India. With such a big campus and greenery....it is best, I feel. Its location is not so developed but, we can get every facility needed.

College Infrastructure: IIT KHARAGPUR is the biggest campus in the India . It includes huge hostel and the room are also neat which are cleaned once a day. But the mess is quite tidy and a bit messy . The food is also needed to be more hygienic. | Academics: I am studying Electrical Engineering because I love the concepts of electricity. The quality of teaching is high but some of the professors are lacking the way of interaction with the students. Curriculum not only includes the books but also practical knowledge but there is not enough time to manage both. | Placements: The campus take care of each and every students placements and prepare the students for the all the job placement. So the students can take a bit relax in this aspect . But the competition is so high in the campus that every one is not paid with the good salary . | Value for Money: As I am a SC student the course cost approx. 1 LAKH each year . I feel that my money is used upon me but that usage can also be improved , by including more events and functions in the campus so that we can have some refreshment in the campus along with the study. | Campus Life: The campus life in the college is just awesome . There are playgrounds to play, Gymkhana to do extra circular activities and many shops near by the hostel to but the necessary items . The only disadvantage is that there is nothing much or interesting outside the campus .The life is stuck between 4 walls. | Others: I have joined the IIT Kharagpur not only to get a degree but also to enjoy the B.tech life at its best. Which the campus is providing me . Though the competition is very high inside the campus but its also a way to struggle in the life and get success.
