Ahmedabad Design Challenge 2026 is open to students, with a ₹150 entry and ₹60,000 top prize

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation and the Ahmedabad chapter of the Association of Designers of India have opened the Ahmedabad Design Challenge 2026. Unusually for a civic competition, students are not an afterthought: they have their own category, their own prize money and a token entry fee.

Entries are invited across design, architecture, interior design and fine arts, from professionals, independent practitioners, consultants, studios and firms, and from students, in India and abroad. Proposals that take sustainability, accessibility and community integration seriously are explicitly prioritised.

Why a design student should enter even without expecting to win

A ₹150 fee gets you a brief with a real client, a real site and a jury of practising designers, which is what a student portfolio usually lacks. Coursework projects look like coursework; a civic competition entry with a stated brief, a site constraint and a submitted deliverable reads differently in an interview. Add the exhibition in December: shortlisted work gets seen by the profession in the city you are most likely to look for work in. The prize money is the upside. The brief and the deadline are the actual prize.
