Gujarat clears four PPP medical colleges at government hospitals in Kheda, Mahisagar, Botad and Gir Somnath

Gujarat’s Health and Family Welfare Department has approved four private operators to set up medical colleges by upgrading government hospitals in Kheda, Mahisagar, Botad and Gir Somnath. The 15 October 2026 release gives no seat count and no start year, and every new college still needs the National Medical Commission’s permission before it can admit MBBS students.

Gujarat clears four PPP medical colleges at government hospitals in Kheda, Mahisagar, Botad and Gir Somnath

Gujarat’s Health and Family Welfare Department has approved four brownfield medical colleges to be built by upgrading existing government hospitals in Kheda, Mahisagar, Botad and Gir Somnath districts. The colleges will run under public-private partnership (PPP), with a private trust or company building and running each college and hospital. The department announced the decision in a release dated 15 October 2026, approved by Health Minister Praful Pansheriya.

The four colleges and who will run them

DistrictOperator named in the release
KhedaShri Gayaprasad Jain Charitable Trust, Ahmedabad
MahisagarShri Swaminarayan Vishwamangal Gurukul, Kalol (Swaminarayan University)
BotadDelta Millennium Medicare Pvt Ltd, Bhadiyad (Morbi)
Gir SomnathShri Chanakya Education and Charitable Trust, Veraval

Conditions on the operators

The release sets out what the selected institutions must provide at the hospitals they take over:

  • Every service that is currently free at the hospital must stay free.
  • Women after delivery, and infants aged 20 days to one year, must get completely free treatment.
  • A dialysis unit with at least 10 beds must be running.
  • Trauma and accident patients must get immediate free treatment.
  • A new Rogi Kalyan Samiti (patient welfare committee), chaired by the district collector, will oversee patient services at each hospital.

What it means for NEET aspirants

The minister said the project will increase medical education seats locally. The release does not say how many MBBS seats each college will have, what fees they will charge, or which academic year the first batch will join.

Approval from the state is only the first step. A new medical college cannot admit students until the National Medical Commission (NMC) grants permission after checking its faculty, hospital and infrastructure. CareerBox reported on how NMC’s applications for new colleges in 2027-28 work. Until these four appear in NMC’s list of permitted colleges and in a counselling seat matrix, they are not options you can choose.

What to do now

  • If you are preparing for NEET-UG, plan with the seats that exist now, not ones still awaiting NMC permission. CareerBox’s guide to MBBS admission in Gujarat explains how state and all-India quota seats work.
  • When Gujarat’s admission committee publishes its seat matrix for a coming year, check whether any of these four colleges is on it, and whether its seats are under the government, management or NRI quota.
