Bihar will test school librarians: applications open 1 October
The Bihar School Examination Board will accept applications for the School Librarian Eligibility Test 2026 from 1 to 21 October. It is a 150-mark computer-based test with no negative marking, open to Bihar residents with a library science degree.
The Bihar School Examination Board has announced a School Librarian Eligibility Test 2026. Applications open on 1 October and close on 21 October 2026, on the board's SLET registration portal.
Who can apply
- Residents of Bihar.
- A bachelor's degree with at least 45% marks, plus a bachelor's degree in Library Science from a recognised university. The notification allows a five-percentage-point relaxation in marks for certain categories.
The test
| Section | Marks |
|---|---|
| Library Science | 100 |
| General Knowledge | 50 |
| Total (150 minutes, computer-based) | 150 |
Every question carries one mark and there is no negative marking, so leave nothing blank. The library science syllabus follows the B.Lib. curriculum of Bihar's universities.
Minimum qualifying marks
General 50%; Backward Class 45.5%; Extremely Backward Class 42.5%; SC, ST, persons with disabilities and women 40%.
Why it matters
An eligibility test is the gate, not the job: passing it makes you eligible for school librarian recruitment when posts are advertised. It is a rare opening for library science graduates, whose options are usually limited to colleges and a handful of public libraries, and it arrives alongside Bihar's large teacher recruitment drive.
