Chhattisgarh raises PG medical stipends, and dental residents get up to 59% more
From 1 October, postgraduate medical and dental students in Chhattisgarh’s government colleges will get ₹85,050 a month in the first year, ₹90,027 in the second and ₹93,996 in the third. Dental residents, who were paid less, now get the same.
Chhattisgarh's Medical Education Department has revised the monthly stipend for postgraduate medical and dental students in government colleges, effective 1 October 2026. The order follows a proposal from the Directorate of Medical Education dated 13 August 2026.
The new stipends
| Year | PG medical (old → new) | PG dental (old → new) |
|---|---|---|
| First | ₹67,500 → ₹85,050 | ₹53,500 → ₹85,050 |
| Second | ₹71,450 → ₹90,027 | ₹56,700 → ₹90,027 |
| Third | ₹74,600 → ₹93,996 | ₹59,200 → ₹93,996 |
The bigger change is parity
Medical PG students get a rise of about 26%. For dental PG students the jump is far steeper, about 59% in each year, because the order ends the gap between the two. An MDS resident and an MD/MS resident in the same year will now be paid the same.
Why it matters for your seat choice
Stipends vary widely between states and between government and private colleges, and they are part of what a PG seat is actually worth. With NEET PG 2026 results out and counselling ahead, candidates weighing a Chhattisgarh government seat against one elsewhere should put the stipend, the bond conditions and the fee side by side before locking choices.
