Gujarat University opens its sports complex to the city, free for its own students
Students of Gujarat University and its affiliated colleges can use the Sardar Patel Sports Complex at no charge with an ID card and fee receipt. School students pay ₹1,000 a month, athletes ₹1,500 and the general public ₹2,000.
Gujarat University's physical education department opened the Sardar Patel Sports Complex to the wider public on 18 September 2026, and published a fee structure alongside it. The headline for students is the simplest line in the table: if you study at the university or at one of its affiliated colleges, you pay nothing. An ID card and your fee receipt are what you carry.
Monthly membership
- University and affiliated-college students: free, with ID card and fee receipt.
- School students: ₹1,000 a month.
- State and national-level athletes: ₹1,500 a month.
- General public: ₹2,000 a month.
Timings
The synthetic track is open 6:30 am to 9:30 am and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the two windows that fit around lectures.
Booking the facilities for an event
Institutions hiring the complex apply on official letterhead. Indicative rates, before 18% GST: the synthetic track and the badminton hall at ₹25,000 for half a day and ₹50,000 for a full day; the boxing ring at ₹11,000; and volleyball, handball, kabaddi, table tennis and judo-wrestling facilities between ₹4,000 and ₹6,000 a session.
For a college sports secretary planning an intercollegiate meet, those are workable numbers. For an individual student, a free synthetic track in Ahmedabad is not a small thing.
