Maths Olympiad 2026: IOQM scores are out, RMO is on 15 November, and qualifier registration is likely to open between 26 October and 1 November

The next stage of India’s Mathematical Olympiad programme is close. The Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) 2026 will be held on Sunday, 15 November 2026, from 1 pm to 4 pm. The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), which runs the programme for the National Board for Higher Mathematics, says on its olympiad page that registration of eligible students is likely to begin between 26 October and 1 November 2026.

Check your IOQM score

The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) 2026, the first stage, was held on 6 September. The Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India), which conducts it, has put IOQM-26 scores in the student login on ioqm.mtai.org.in. Log in with your enrolment number and date of birth. The window to challenge a score closed at 6 pm on 9 October, and challenges by email are not accepted.

Who goes to RMO

You must score at least 10% of the IOQM total, but that alone does not qualify you. The list is drawn up region by region:

• Category A (enrolled in Class 8, 9, 10 or 11): the top 200 in each region, plus anyone tied at 200th place.
• Category B (enrolled in Class 12): the top 40 in each region, plus ties at 40th place.
• Girls’ quota: 5 more girls from Category A in each region, even if girls are already in the top 200. Category B has no separate girls’ quota.

Your region depends on the postal address of your school. Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas form two regions of their own.

To reach INMO 2027 from RMO you need a non-zero RMO score and a place in your region’s top 30 (Category A) or top 6 (Category B). Five more Category A girls per region qualify under the girls’ quota. Ties are broken by IOQM scores. INMO picks the camp for the International Mathematical Olympiad 2027, the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad 2027 and the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad 2028.

What to do now

1. Log in to the IOQM portal and note your score.
2. Check the HBCSE Mathematical Olympiad 2026-2027 page from 26 October for the RMO qualifier list and registration link. Ask your school’s IOQM centre in-charge too.
3. Practise writing full proofs. RMO has no options to tick: every answer is a written argument. HBCSE posts past RMO and INMO papers on its site.
4. Keep 15 November free. HBCSE says another date is possible only for a region where the exam cannot be held for reasons outside anyone’s control.

The Science Olympiads run on a separate track: the National Standard Examinations in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy and Junior Science are on 21 and 22 November, and their enrolment has closed.
