National Insurance Company is hiring 321 Administrative Officers at ₹82,485 basic pay: apply by 28 October, prelim on 17 November

National Insurance Company Ltd. (NICL), the Kolkata-based public sector general insurer, is recruiting 321 Administrative Officers (Scale I) from the open market. Online registration opened on 8 October 2026 and closes on 28 October 2026. The fee must be paid within the same window. The Phase I exam is on 17 November 2026 and Phase II on 22 December 2026.

Where the 321 posts are

• Generalist: 200 posts. A graduate or postgraduate degree in any stream.
• Risk Engineers: 28. An engineering degree in any branch other than IT, computer science or automobile.
• Finance: 20. CA or CMA plus a degree.
• Legal: 20. A graduate or postgraduate degree in law.
• Automobile Engineers: 20. A B.E. or B.Tech in automobile engineering, or any engineering degree with a diploma of at least one year in automobile engineering.
• Agriculture: 20. A four-year graduate or a postgraduate degree in agriculture, agricultural biotechnology or agricultural engineering.
• Information Technology: 11 (10 plus 1 backlog). B.E., B.Tech, M.E. or M.Tech in computer science or IT, or an MCA.
• Company Secretaries: 2. ACS or FCS plus a degree, posted mainly at the head office in Kolkata.

Every discipline needs at least 60% marks in the qualifying degree (55% for SC, ST and PwBD), held by 1 October 2026. NICL does not round up, so 59.99% counts as below 60%. You can apply for only one discipline. If you apply twice, only the latest complete application is kept and the other fee is lost.

Age, fee and pay

• Age: 21 to 30 years on 1 October 2026, so you must be born between 2 October 1996 and 1 October 2005. SC and ST candidates get 5 extra years, OBC (non-creamy layer) 3 and PwBD 10 to 15.
• Fee: ₹1,000 for most candidates, ₹250 for SC, ST and PwBD. It is not refundable.
• Pay: starting basic pay of ₹82,485. NICL puts total pay at about ₹1,14,000 a month in metro centres.

How selection works

Phase I is a 60-minute online test of 100 marks: English (30), reasoning (35) and quantitative aptitude (35), with 20 minutes for each section. About 15 candidates per vacancy go to the main exam. Phase II has a 250-mark objective paper and a 30-mark descriptive English test (essay, précis and comprehension) that you only need to pass. Each wrong objective answer costs one quarter of that question's marks. The final merit list counts the main exam and the interview in an 80:20 ratio.

Gujarat candidates can take Phase I in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar, Anand or Vadodara, Jamnagar, Mehsana, Rajkot, and Surat or Bardoli. Phase II centres in the state are Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar and Rajkot.

Read this before you sign up

Selected officers sign a bond to serve for at least four years. They must stay at least five years at their first posting and pass the Insurance Institute of India's licentiate exam during probation. Specialists may have to stay in their specialisation for 10 years.

NICL's separate 500-post Assistant recruitment is also moving. Its 8 October notice lists the candidates who passed the prelim, and the main exam is on 30 October 2026.
