Gujarat opened its Right to Education admissions for 2026-27 with more than 84,000 seats in private schools. Under the RTE Act, private schools must keep 25% of their entry-class seats for children from disadvantaged and weaker sections, and the state fills them centrally at no cost to the family.

The seats by medium

  • Gujarati medium: roughly 41,000 seats
  • English medium: 40,262 seats
  • Hindi medium: 2,235 seats
  • Other mediums: 320 seats

What changed this year

Two things. Parents could choose the shift — morning or afternoon — alongside the school itself, which had not been possible before. And the priority order was revised so that children from reserved categories rank above those who attended an anganwadi centre.

The dates

Online registration opened on 4 April and was to close on 17 April; the state later extended the deadline to 23 April to give parents more time to assemble documents.

If you are planning for the next cycle, start collecting the income, residence and caste certificates early — every year the extension exists because families are still chasing paperwork when the window closes.
