The NEET UG stray round: registration 12 October, result 17 October, everything ends 26 October
The online stray vacancy round is the last chance at an MBBS or BDS seat this year. Registration runs 12 to 14 October, the result is on 17 October, and reporting closes on 26 October — the hard stop for the 2026-27 season.
If round 3 does not produce a seat, one round remains. The online stray vacancy round for All India Quota, deemed and central universities is the final opportunity of the 2026-27 medical admission season, and its schedule is already published — which means it can be planned for now rather than panicked over in October.
The stray round timetable
- Registration and payment: 12 to 14 October. Registration closes at 3:00 pm on 14 October; payment until 6:00 pm.
- Choice filling: 12 to 15 October, closing at 10:00 am on 15 October.
- Choice locking: from 4:00 pm on 14 October to 10:00 am on 15 October.
- Processing of allotment: 15 to 16 October.
- Result: 17 October.
- Reporting: 19 to 26 October.
The state rounds run alongside
State-quota stray rounds are scheduled from 17 to 21 October, with MCC sharing allotted-candidate data with the states on 17 October. Every state's last date of joining, like the All India Quota's, is 26 October.
Why 26 October is a real wall
It is the date after which no MBBS or BDS admission for 2026-27 can be made. It is not a soft target that slips: the academic session began on 15 September, and the entire counselling calendar is built backwards from a regulatory deadline. A seat allotted on 17 October with reporting to 26 October gives a candidate nine days to arrange fees, travel, documents and a hostel — in the middle of the festival season.
Three things to do before October
- Keep your original documents accessible and together. The stray round has no time for retrieving a certificate from another state.
- Have the fee arranged, not promised. Stray-round seats are disproportionately at private colleges, where the first instalment is large.
- Decide in advance which seats you would actually take. A stray-round allotment you refuse still has consequences, and this is not the round in which to discover your own limits.
