UPSC Geo-Scientist prelim is on Sunday, 10 January 2027: general studies at 9:30 am, your stream paper at 2 pm
UPSC issued the time table for the Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination 2027 on 26 October 2026. Both papers are on 10 January 2027. The exam fills 127 posts in the Geological Survey of India and the Central Ground Water Board, and Ahmedabad is a centre.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published the time table for the Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination, 2027, dated 26 October 2026. Both papers are on Sunday, 10 January 2027. Applications closed on 22 September 2026, so this concerns only those who applied.
The time table

Both papers are objective. A wrong answer costs one-third of the marks for that question, and prelim marks count in the final merit. The main exam is on 19 and 20 June 2027, followed by a personality test.
Posts on offer
The notice of 2 September 2026 lists 127 tentative vacancies:
- Geological Survey of India (111): Geologist 29, Chemist 7, Assistant Geologist 34, Assistant Geophysicist 35, Assistant Chemist 6. No Geophysicist (Group A) posts this year.
- Central Ground Water Board (16): Scientist B (Hydrogeology) 5, Scientist B (Chemical) 1, Scientist B (Geophysics) 1, Assistant Hydrogeologist 7, Assistant Chemist 1, Assistant Geophysicist 1.
Ten of these vacancies are reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities.
Admit card and centre
UPSC's notice says e-admit cards are issued on the last working day of the week before the exam, on upsconline.nic.in. Nothing is sent by post. Ahmedabad is one of 21 prelim centres, and UPSC said it would not cap the number of candidates there. Requests to change centre are not accepted.
