Gujarat CET 2027-28 for Class 6 admission: schools fill forms from 30 October to 5 November, exam likely on 2 January

The State Examination Board (SEB), Gujarat has issued the notification for the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2027-28, dated 29 October 2026. The test decides two things for children now finishing Class 5: a Class 6 seat in the state's Gyanshakti Residential Schools, Gyanshakti Tribal Residential Schools and Rakshashakti Schools, and the Mukhyamantri Gyansetu Merit Scholarship, which is paid from Class 6 to Class 12. Who can take the test

  • Children completing Class 1 to 5 at a government or grant-in-aid school. That includes schools run by panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations, government and grant-in-aid schools under the Tribal Development Department, and schools of the Gujarat State Tribal Education Society. On the merit list, they can get a Class 6 seat in any of these schools and the Gyansetu scholarship.
  • Tribal children on the merit list can also be admitted to Class 6 in the society's Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and Sainik schools. As last year, there is no separate test for these.
  • Children from self-financed (private) schools can take the test only for Rakshashakti Schools, where they can fill at most 25% of the seats.

The paper

The test is multiple choice: 120 questions for 120 marks in 150 minutes, in Gujarati or English. It is based on the Class 5 syllabus, and the Board says 30% of the questions will be competency-based, in line with NEP 2020.

Centres are set at taluka level. The child has to reach the allotted centre at the family's own cost.

How the form is filled

The school fills in the form, not the parent. It is done on the Samagra Shiksha portal named in the notice, web.convegenius.ai/chat. The school logs in with its DISE code, adds a teacher code (preferably the Class 5 teacher), opens the Class 5 list and completes one form per child. Most details are fetched automatically. The teacher adds the teacher's and the parent's mobile numbers and can correct the category, caste, sub-caste and medium if they are wrong. Forms can also be filled free of charge at model schools, BRC Bhavans and CRC Bhavans.

  • Fill the whole form in English. The Board will not correct the name, surname, date of birth or category later.
  • Give a parent's mobile number that works. The Directorate of Schools will use it for admission and scholarship messages.
  • Keep a printout of the submitted form.

Hall ticket and result

Hall tickets will be downloaded from sebexam.org with the confirmation number and date of birth. Schools will pass on the details and the Board will also send an SMS. Before the exam, the hall ticket needs the principal's signature and stamp and a passport-size photo of the child pasted on it. The result will be published on sebexam.org. The Directorate of Schools will then run admissions and the scholarship from the merit list, based on the number of seats and scholarships the government sets.

What to do now: if your child is in Class 5, ask the class teacher before 5 November whether the CET form has been filled and which mobile number was given. If your child is in Class 8, the separate NMMS exam is covered in our NMMS scholarship guide.
