GATE 2027: if your form was flagged as defective, you now have until 31 October to fix it, at no extra fee

IIT Madras, the organising institute for GATE 2027, has pushed the closing date of the application rectification window (scrutiny defects) from 21 October to Saturday, 31 October 2026. The window opened on 14 October. The change appears on the important dates page of the GATE 2027 website, as seen on 28 October 2026.

Check which of three statuses you have

Zonal institutes are scrutinising applications now. Log in to goaps.iitm.ac.in and you will see one of these:

• Application under scrutiny: your zone has not finished. Keep checking your email and the portal.
• Application is defective: you should have received an email saying what is wrong. Correct it on the portal before 31 October. No extra fee is charged for fixing a defect.
• Application in order and accepted: nothing more to do.

The most common problem flagged on the site is the photo ID for unverified DigiLocker accounts. If your DigiLocker account is not verified, give consent to DigiLocker and upload your photo ID as the instructions say. The GATE office also warns candidates not to delete the DigiLocker account they applied with, because all communication goes through it.

If you want to change your paper, exam cities or category yourself, that comes under the paid data correction window, which IIT Madras has not dated yet. The fee page says the changes table is "to be updated soon". In the earlier window, most such changes cost ₹500 per paper.
