Railway assistant loco pilot exam: 3 to 5 November, 11,127 posts, 8.4 lakh candidates

The Railway Recruitment Boards have fixed 3, 4 and 5 November 2026 for the first computer-based test of the Assistant Loco Pilot recruitment under notification CEN 01/2026. It is one of the largest recruitment examinations of the year.

The numbers

• 11,127 vacancies for Level 2 Assistant Loco Pilot.
• About 8,40,944 candidates are scheduled to appear, across three shifts.

That is roughly 76 candidates for every post — worth knowing, because it tells you what CBT 1 is actually for. It is a screening test designed to reduce a very large field, not a test designed to find the best driver. Accuracy and speed on the easy questions matter more than brilliance on the hard ones.

The two documents, and when they arrive

• Exam city intimation slip: ten days before your examination date. For a 3 November slot that is 25 October; for 4 November, 26 October.
• e-Call letter (admit card): four days before your date. For 3 November that is 31 October; for 4 November, 1 November.

What to do with the ten days

The city slip exists so that candidates can arrange travel, and for an examination of this size that is not a small thing. If your centre is in another district, book transport the day the slip appears — by the last week of October, trains and buses on those routes fill with other candidates doing exactly the same thing.

Check the name, date of birth and photograph on the call letter the moment it is available, and carry the photo identity document specified in the notification. A discrepancy is fixable in the days before and not at the gate.
