SWAYAM July semester exams are on 8 to 12 December, and your MOOC credits depend on them

The testing agency has fixed the examination for SWAYAM July 2026 semester courses for 8 to 12 December 2026, with 13 and 14 December as buffer dates. Online coursework only earns credit if you sit this paper.

SWAYAM July semester exams are on 8 to 12 December, and your MOOC credits depend on them

The examination for courses taken in the SWAYAM July 2026 semester will be held on 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 December 2026, with 13 and 14 December held as buffer dates. The National Testing Agency conducts the examination on the platform's behalf.

Why this date matters more than it looks

SWAYAM courses are free to watch and free to enrol in, but the credit only exists if you register for, and pass, the proctored end-of-semester examination at a designated centre. Students routinely complete an entire course, skip the examination, and end up with nothing transferable to their degree.

Under the credit-transfer provisions that universities now operate, a passed SWAYAM course can count towards a proportion of the credits in a programme, with the marks incorporated by the parent institution. That is the whole point of the platform for a degree student, and it is entirely conditional on the December sitting.

What to do

  • Check the examination registration window on the SWAYAM examination portal. It is separate from course enrolment and closes earlier than most students expect.
  • Confirm your city choice. The examination is at a physical centre, not online.
  • Tell your college. Credit transfer needs your parent institution to accept the course in advance; a pass certificate presented after the fact is much harder to get counted.

Updates are published on the agency's SWAYAM examination portal at exams.nta.nic.in/swayam.
