GPSC wants marine engineers, harbour pilots and a naval architect, applications close 8 October
GPSC has opened 15 advertisements (42 to 56/2026-27) for 26 posts, most of them at Gujarat’s ports: pilot officers, port officers, assistant port officers, marine engineers and a naval architect. The preliminary exam is on 13 December.
The Gujarat Public Service Commission is taking online applications for advertisements 42 to 56 of 2026-27 from 1 pm on 24 September to 11:59 pm on 8 October 2026. It is a small batch of 26 posts, but an unusual one: most of it is for the sea.
The maritime posts
- Pilot Officer (FGM), Class 1: 4 posts, six years' experience.
- Port Officer (FGM) / Nautical Officer / Additional Port Officer, Class 1: 3 posts, plus 1 in the special recruitment drive for persons with disabilities; eight years' experience.
- Assistant Port Officer, Class 2: 7 posts, plus 1 in the disability drive; two years' experience.
- Junior Marine Engineer, Class 1: 1 post; Marine Engineer, Class 1: 1 (disability drive). B.E./B.Tech in mechanical or marine engineering, five years' experience.

- Naval Architect, Class 1: 1 post, seven years.

The rest of the batch
All in the special drive for persons with disabilities: Manager Grade-1, Class 2 (diploma or degree in hotel management), Assistant Director (FS), Class 2, Junior Architect, Class 2 and Joint Director of Horticulture, Class 1 (postgraduate or PhD).
Exam dates
The general studies preliminary for every advertisement is on 13 December 2026. The subject papers follow between 7 January and 6 February 2027, depending on the post.
Why a student should notice this
Gujarat has the longest coastline in India and more non-major ports than any other state, and these are the officers who run them. If you are in a marine engineering, nautical science or naval architecture programme, this advertisement shows where a state-government maritime career starts, and how much sea time or industry experience it asks for first.
Unreserved candidates may pay the fee by post-office challan until 9 October or online until 11:59 pm on 8 October. Age is counted on the last date of application.
