Thirteen posts are reserved for ex-servicemen. Posts reserved for candidates with disabilities are not in this advertisement; the board says they will be filled through a separate special recruitment drive.

Pay and the exam

  • ₹40,800 a month fixed for the first five years, then, on satisfactory service, regular pay in Level 5 (₹29,200 to ₹92,300) of the Seventh Pay Commission.
  • Fee: ₹500 for unreserved candidates; ₹400 for all women and for SEBC, SC, ST, EWS, PwD and ex-servicemen candidates.
  • Two MCQ papers of 100 marks and two hours each. Paper 1 (nursing): fundamentals, medical-surgical, midwifery and paediatric, mental health and psychiatric, and community health nursing, 20 marks each; it can be taken in Gujarati or English. Paper 2 (Gujarati): language 30, grammar 40, literature 30; Gujarati only.
  • A quarter of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer. You must score 40% in each paper; merit is on the combined total.

Why now

The ESI network these nurses will staff is getting bigger. The Union labour ministry has notified that the scheme will cover all of Gujarat from 1 October 2026, bringing in 15 districts that were outside it and completing coverage in 16 that were only partly covered.

Do not underestimate Paper 2. Nursing graduates tend to prepare only for Paper 1, but the Gujarati paper carries equal weight in the merit list, and failing it rules you out.
