NEET PG 2026 result is due by 30 September, and the answer key is owed too

Candidates for postgraduate medical seats have a date: the NEET PG 2026 result is due by 30 September. What makes this cycle different from every cycle before 2025 is what has to be published alongside it.

What the court required

Following directions issued by the Supreme Court in April 2025, the examination board must publish, for this multi-shift examination, the raw scores, the answer key and the normalisation formula used to convert one into the other. Before that, none of it was disclosed. Candidates received a score and a rank and had no way to check either.

That first disclosure, in 2025, was a genuine change. It was also criticised: the board published question IDs and the correct answers without publishing the questions themselves, which left candidates able to verify very little about their own paper. Whether the 2026 disclosure goes further is the thing to watch when the result drops.

Why normalisation is the number that matters

In a multi-shift examination, candidates sit different question papers. Normalisation is the statistical adjustment that is supposed to make a score in a harder shift equivalent to a score in an easier one. It is also the single largest unexplained variable in most candidates' results. A raw score and a normalised score can differ enough to move someone across a cut-off. Publishing the formula is what turns that from a matter of trust into a matter of arithmetic.

What to do while you wait

  • Keep your application number and password to hand, as the response sheet and answer key are released behind a login.
  • When the answer key appears, check your own responses against it before the objection window closes. Objection windows in this examination are short.
  • Do not plan counselling around a leaked or predicted cut-off. The qualifying percentile is declared with the result.
